AAA video games should cost $100 on launch. this would still be extremely cheap for the amount of time and enjoyment you get out of them! But an audience of whiny babies has kept them literally at the same price for *two decades* despite both general inflation *and* sector-specific costs rising

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Greg Newby, who led Project Gutenberg ( @gutenberg.org ) with passion and purpose. Greg’s belief in free and open access to knowledge continues to inspire us and so many others working to preserve our shared culture online. gutenberg.org/about/newby....

Reconnaissance of a multi-story building from the inside using FPV drone to identify possible Russian positions. In this case, everything is clear, but the video is a good demonstration of the capabilities of urban reconnaissance using drones.

Question I am wrestling with - in the aftermath of late 90s/early 2000s tech bubble there was a lot of infra left behind (fibre optic build out; mass internet adoption etc) that became a persistent consumer surplus. For the AI buildout, unless data centres can be repurposed - where’s the surplus?
Had the same reaction when I booted my first, 13 year old iPad recently after about 4 years. Just an ebook reader at this point, but works and the battery is still quite decent.
Working class, salt of the earth indeed. bsky.app/profile/samt...
lmao just one fucking second please
Named after Horst Wessel originally even (another ship in the class captured by the allies still serves in the same role in the Portuguese navy, one is a museum ship in Germany, returning there via the Soviet and then the Ukrainian navy).
For four generations of Coast Guard cadets, getting their “sea legs” and literally “learning the ropes” has come aboard the Coast Guard sailing ship Eagle.

But did you know it was a former Nazi training ship?

Learn more about its history:

Next year, the Eagle will celebrate 80 years as part of the Coast Guard. Its alumni rank from ensigns to admirals.

(He has a much more substantial role in the second film though-he’s the opponent of Feyd on the Giedi Prime arena).
Yuan also shows up in a very minor role. When Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa) gives Paul an Arrakis compass, we see Yuan in the background. Also, the film’s Editor, Joe Walker, provided the voice of Paul’s filmbooks teaching him about Arrakis.

Heh, missed this
Zimmer shows up in the film too, as the bagpipe player on Arrakis, though the sound of the instrument was achieved on a guitar. The idea of using bagpipes came from Villeneuve himself.

Heh, 6-7 immediately reminded me of exactly this.

Genuinely one of the most indecipherable things I've seen in a while is the range of political alignments defending the tattoo guy. Like why is the entire horseshoe playing here
Prawda :) A całkiem serio, to nie jestem pewien gdzie coś więcej o tym znaleźć (na japońskiej wiki jest dokładnie to samo), bo szczerze mówiąc, to jakiś totalny ewenement.
Weird Polish middle-aged guy vibes are really strong in Sliwa („Plum”, btw).
The insignia of the whole branch of the SS that had administration of the camps under it’s remit. The division in question was recruited from it’s members, commanded by it’s chief and inherited the symbol.
Yeah, not their first rodeo one can assume, considering aggressive self-confidence needed to pull this off.

Also, I'm willing to bet the global public's sympathies for the culprits behind the heist, which I wrote about yesterday, will decline dramatically when they're caught and revealed to be neither Arsène Lupin nor Thomas Crown, but rather a gang of hardened, professional breaking-and-entering thugs.
Everyone loves a heist. It's cooked into the word itself.
Ignoramus proud of his ignorance-no shortage of those these days.
It’s impossible to satirize NYT style at this point
I know it’s been pointed out on here but I actually cannot believe they printed these two phrases — ”pay him $230 million” and “potential ethical conflicts“ — up top together like this.

I think I need therapy after seeing this behavior-coverage gap

The actual regime that these people are hankering after is Dubai: a small elite of citizens, most immigrants to be transient, insecure and all immigrants to be second-class. In reality they would hate the world they would create and would find ever-more ridiculous scapegoats for their failure.

i think that there is something even darker here, in that the crooked media guys have come to the conclusion that civic virtue and public service are scams for suckers and that if you hold your rulers to a higher standard you are just begging for them to fuck you
you know it is not at all difficult to acknowledge the legitimate concerns about the tattoo and still make a case for the candidate. but this would require maturity, a perspective outside ones own and a willingness to lose a little face, which means it won’t happen.
“Let him among you who is without a Nazi tattoo cast the first stone.” -The Bible
Ending up in prison for causing a collision and then, after the release, continuing the career in the navy as if nothing happened-becoming an admiral even-is a bit bonkers, tbh.
Once a major war ends, there are plenty of surplus toys for overgrown boys to play with and destroy in imaginative ways.
