wrote about how Dr. Phil pivoted to wholesale MAGA punditry after leaving daytime TV to start his own company—and why his Trump friendship and ICE ride-alongs couldn't save his new venture from the bankruptcy proceedings that now have him tied up in court slate.com/business/202...
He Used to Dominate Daytime TV. Now He’s Sucking Up to Trump—and His Media Empire Is Collapsing.
When Dr. Phil signed off his talk show in 2023, he pivoted to MAGA politics. It’s not working so well for him.

I know video essayists gotta pay their bills, but if I see an ad read for Factor or the Paired app I’m probably going to stop watching. I could skip over it, sure, but something about overpriced diet Hungry Man meals and using an intercessory app to get spouses to converse just grosses me out.

the Bajoran version of the Bechdel test is “do two named women talk to each other about something other than murder” and I love “Deep Space Nine” because it fails almost every episode

Baby I’m not flirting, I’m just sincere and awkward. Also let me begin my three part apology for calling you “baby” by reminding you that I’m sincere and awkward

Yes, life is harsh, but it doesn’t end.
Let us stand firm and keep moving forward,

Hey @sciam.bsky.social - if you’re going to allow @denibechard.bsky.social to write stuff defending #AISlop, your brand will be irrevocably tied to the AI bubble bursting as well as supporting the abuse of copyright of a woman who was abused while she was alive. Creeps.

this is only literary opinion adjacent but it is definitely unhinged

when I am stocking copies of a face-out book at the bookstore, I will put the fresh copies behind any copies already on the shelf, because they’ve been waiting their turn to be picked and I don’t want their feelings to get hurt

This one leaves a particularly foul taste in my mouth because Monroe’s exploitation DIDN’T end w death.

Richard Poncher demanded to be buried face-down in the crypt above her. Hugh Hefner, who exploited her images in life, dropped
75K to “spend eternity” next to her.

Let this woman REST!

I don't know how many times to point out that is absolutely ghoulish and non-consensual and disgusting behavior.
To exploit the image of a dead woman who was also exploited in real life so you can live out your momentary fantasies of "what is possible" with AI is bad science journalism, also.
Sick.

Marilyn Monroe in Game of Thrones? AI Could Make It Happen Soon

Despite early, and familiar, copyright growing pains, Sora may be the prelude to AI-generated on-demand TV and movies

Screenshot includes an AI generated image of what looks like a human cross between Daenaerys Targaryen and Marilyn Monroe on the back of a dragon.

If I hadn’t had my home phone number memorized and 50 cents in my pocket at all times I’d have had a very difficult time getting home from the shopping center, I tell you hwat

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

(Tbh I could just be a bit stupid since things still fly overhead even now, but I’m trying my best 😭)

And I say that as a voracious reader throughout my childhood and teen years. I loved literature classes most of all but still felt like the majority of things were going over my head, and only now in my 40s am I like OHHHH, THAT’S what that meant. Huh.

A lot of the books/plays foisted upon teenagers in high school will escape their grasp until much later in life, so maybe the syllabi should include some more accessible texts to meet them where they’re at and help foster a love of lit discovery (so they don’t just straight up hate reading)

I’m sharing a Palestinian account every day and today is Baraa. Baraa is the mother of 3 children Masa, 6, Ibrahim, 4 and Maha, 7 months. Tragically Maha was killed after a nearby bombing caused gasses to overwhelm her little lungs. Masa is in the hospital because of kidney issues from malnutrition.

(And if you got to the end here, thank you for reading this jumble of thoughts. I’m trying to isolate less and say more of what I feel, but it’s hard)

Anyway, if you’re out there protesting or prepping for No Kings 2 or otherwise engaged in resistance, take care of yourselves, lean on community, bring silly joyful energy, and don’t let the bastards grind you down in all their feeble attempts to mischaracterize what resistance is 🐸💛

(Also one time I seriously hurt someone—obviously by accident—during a bout I cried right there on the track and people were surprised. I’m a feeler and a gentle giant. I just wanted friends and a silly nickname and to skate fast, I wasn’t there to be a brute)
cosmic46.bsky.social
Although considering that I encountered normies who thought anyone who played roller derby must have a blood lust fueled desire to hurt others, I’m not that surprised, deep down. (Those same people probably loved watching dudes accumulate brain injuries playing football, so *shrug*)

Is it really so hard to believe that people can make community, organize, create, gather, and protest in peaceful and interesting ways without the motivation of money? I mean I’m a shut-in introvert, but even I know the power of getting together to be silly. And I used to go to protests, once!
