Some really stupid mega art projects designed for geological longevity. Granite monuments devoted to gods that don't exist purposely designed to outlast all of our legitimate cultures and religions. A whole world dimly aware that they will be outlasted by the Scorpion Goat.

Real Hillary "Who is this Obama guy anyway?" energy here.

I think one of the biggest tactical errors of 2016 and 2024 was not having a real primary. Primaries bruise and bloody a politician, but they also reveal their strengths and get them and the public ready for the fight in the general.
gilmored85.bsky.social
This is an impt think that I think ppl miss. Why a well earned primary victory is actually pretty impt for outsider branded candidates in particular is bc it demonstrates you've got what it takes to win a tough race. The main concern is beating Collins. If Platner can beat Mills, itd be a good sign
trudymiller.bsky.social
This is absolutely the best way for him to learn/practice how to run against Susan Collins effectively. He is new to campaigning - a vigorous, hard fought primary will be essential. And he will win :-)

Let's not forget the buildup to Iraq in 2003!
cityinahole.bsky.social
Did not realize these guys stole so much stuff until recently. It sucks!
cityinahole.bsky.social
Now can we just get you to give up on your both sides bullshit, you might be a legitimate media source.

You can't go from "Democracy Dies in Darkness" to "LOL, LMAO Darkness" without burning your brand into ashes. Sorry, them's just the rules.

There's a Redwall joke somewhere in here, I just know it.

This week's Oktobersketch vignette. All quiet on the front.
A scene of various animals wearing roughly WW2 kit, relaxing with tea and cigarettes. A platypus, scorpion, barn owl, ourang-outan, jumping spider, crab and monitor lizard.

Neptune's Brood is a good choice too.

Came out in 1999, but I feel like Cryptonomicon is one of the best examples.

Great example of how mass media contains multitudes. I thought it was a terrible show, and yet, I would see people watching it on the plane constantly. Also apparently has a wide international audience.

EL PASO — a family says ICE showed up at their house looking for migrants and shot and KILLED THEIR DOG, then didn’t help them as the agent ran away and was not identified.

Honestly amazing news. I was shocked by how many homeless people were living in the streets in CA when I went there last. It's been really disconcerting to see the same trends slowly develop in MN. First step to fixing it is making housing and development easier, faster and less tied to lobbyists.

In better news, Newsom signed SB-79.

It's also so important to remember there isn't one true narrative of what makes a party member. One of the crazy things I learned as an insider in the DFL was that the party didn't have an internal quorum on abortion and pro-choice issues until 2022.

Is this a Mahayana story or something else?
cityinahole.bsky.social
My kids still love it though...

Like for real. The plot of Spirited Away is about a kidnapped child forced into a life of indentured servitude in realm of gods after her mother and father are magically forced into becoming pigs by a witch. Meanwhile, Princess Mononoke exists.

Whenever someone uses Ghibli or Miyazaki as a synonym for "quaint, charming, unthreatening" I'm always like "bro did we watch the same movies?"

I just think of the doctrines that no longer exist in any meaningful way in the U.S. Constitution: emoluments, standing, immunity, corruption/bribery. If you take Madison seriously the constitution, the courts and congress have failed.

Trump vs. US was the final straw imo. You cannot read that ruling and continue believing they have legitimacy. It is not only against the plain text of the constitution, it is anathema to the national ethos. It is offensively, insultingly un-American and they ceded legitimacy by committing that sin.
cityinahole.bsky.social
I mean congress has also failed. That was clear after the second impeachment.
cityinahole.bsky.social
The Supreme Court has deliberately destroyed every part of the Madisonian constitution. Emoluments, the 14th amendment, immunity, they are destroying our republic.
hurricanexyz.bsky.social
This is correct. Also, the Supreme Court is illegitimate.

(It's a big problem!)

My kids are the best part of my life, and also kept me from saving a single dollar for a decade because of childcare costs. That said even if they were cheaper I doubt I'd have had more than the two I have.
figgityfigs.bsky.social
I’ve got five kids and they are maddening and take up all of my time and a lot of our money and they are worth every cent and second and would be worth a thousand times as much. If people are pretty sure they’re not gonna feel that way as a parent, they shouldn’t be one.

Losing all of my insurance when I went to college before the ACA sucked so bad. My teeth deteriorated. I had 2 bouts of pneumonia when I was a temp worker that were so expensive to treat without insurance that I bounced my rent check. I was "healthy".

Free healthcare to all residents of the US regardless of immigration status would rule, actually. Universal benefits for universal problems (having a body that can get sick or hurt)
cityinahole.bsky.social
I don't list to Taylor Swift but the whole discussion around this album makes everyone involved, haters and fans, sound completely deranged.
cityinahole.bsky.social
I wrote a reply below talking about antitrust, but my conter-factual for this: I have never been madder, more disturbed and filled with contempt for the media, our elites and even my own party. There is no business as usual after this administration. My neighbors and local pols are radicalized.

So, imagine a 2028 that ends with a normal election and a Democratic president.

Does that president punish CBS? Does he kick it out of the Brady room's front row? Does his FCC go after its licenses? Does his FTC probe the Skydance deal?

No, probably not. No fear of reprisal if power shifts back.
gregsargent.bsky.social
Do CBS News executives understand that MAGA will not be in power forever? I genuinely think this is lost on a lot of people. They've gotten scammed by bad actors into believing Trump's 2024 win represented something seismic and even permanent. I predict they'll look back on this as a serious error.
