The Dem establishment is going to back Mills over the absolute phenom outsider Platner in Maine, which tells you everything you need to know about how well they understand the current moment & how prepared they are to meet it.

This is absolutely the best way for him to learn/practice how to run against Susan Collins effectively. He is new to campaigning - a vigorous, hard fought primary will be essential. And he will win :-)

I want to defeat Susan Collins. The enthusiasm I see for Platner is off the charts and I think he can do that. I prefer his age, temperament and platform to Janet’s - but I have a lot of respect for her and will rank her second. If she wins the primary I will be happy to support her.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out what the hell the Senate Democrats are doing in Maine — the most important Senate race in the country. Their decision to back Janet Mills suggests they have learned no lessons from our loss in 2024.

Are Democrats About to Blow It in Maine?
By backing Janet Mills over a grassroots outsider, party leaders may be repeating the same mistakes from 2024

“I spent three nights and three days in federal custody. During that time, I was never told what I was charged with, was not allowed to shower despite being covered in tear gas and pepper spray, had no phone call to my family, and no access to an attorney.” - George Retes, U.S. citizen and veteran.
I’m a US citizen and a veteran. ICE arrested me for no reason.
Jailed for three days without an explanation or ability to notify anyone, George Retes argues the only path to healing starts with the government taking accountability for its actions.

We have armed secret police kidnapping people off the street based on the color of their skin.

When we win: we will haul them before a Senate committee. The masks will come off. There will be consequences.

ME's Senate field includes at least 3 plausible younger Democrats, most notably the viral populist oyster farmer Graham Platner, 41. Janet Mills is 77. Why are top Dems so set on her? So resistant to new blood? @danpfeiffer.bsky.social asks the right questions. www.messageboxnews.com/p/are-democr...

I live near Belfast. They probably supported Mills in 2018 - I certainly did - but there is huge enthusiasm for Graham Platner. I assume Janet will be ranked second by most.

Open primary could upend this. Also - all of the retired professional women I know are all in for Graham. Pretty much everyone thinks Janet is too old.

Jared Golden never talks about this stuff -- let alone tries to do anything about it. Either he's OK with it, doesn't really care or doesn't think it's part of the job.

Whatever the reason, it's disqualifying.

His silence seems even louder with a viable alternative in the picture. #MEpolitics

Plus I am hopeful that Graham Platner will have coattails to help Matt Dunlap (if he wins the Dem primary.)

Gotta say--dressing up in costumes is the kind of creatively brilliant resistance we all need. It brings joy and humor to things while vividly painting the authoritarian as foolish and absurd. Hats off Portlanders! @benjaminwittes.lawfaremedia.org I think this counts as the sprite of mischief.

Your periodic reminder that Kevin Warsh is a fundamentally unserious person, with incredibly awful ideas about macroeconomic policy & central banking, who should not be let anywhere near the Federal Reserve:

I know your point is about the party and I agree with that. But I think you very much underestimate how unusual Graham Platner is.

Could you name some of the 'other people'? You are right this is not rocket science because it is not science at all - he has a gift he was born with. It cannot be learned or even worse purchased from consultants. This is why it is so rare.

Sadly this is exactly @golden.house.gov 's position. But then he is not really a Democrat - more like the spawn of an unholy alliance of Joe Manchin and Susan Collins. Many of us in ME CD02 are elated that Golden will be primaried - and that Collins will be crushed by @grahamformaine.bsky.social
