The fact that protests now feature people who don’t normally have to worry about what might happen to them in an adverse encounter with security forces is a HUGE DEAL.

It means that the “real” victims don’t have to suffer alone. It means that some people care about something more than themselves

Police officers who publicly declare that they’ll quit if a mayoral candidate they dislike wins the election are (1) usually bluffing—sure buddy, toss away that paycheck and pension—and (2) exactly the sort of cops cities would be better off without, ones who don’t see themselves as public servants.

Ted Cruz: Gavin is deliberately lying. To fund the government takes 60 votes in the Senate. There are only 53 Republicans. We need at least 7 Dems. We keep voting to open the government. Dems keep voting to shut it down. @GavinNewsom knows that. And he’s lying to you.
