The user message model also isn’t sustainable for Augment Code as a business. For example, over the last 30 days, a user on our $250 Max plan has issued 335 requests per hour, every hour, for 30 days, and is approaching $15,000 per month in cost to Augment Code. This sort of use isn’t inherently bad, but as a business, we have to price our service in accordance with our costs.

Jesus christ. AI coding platform Augment code had to jack up prices because 22.5% of their users were spending 20x of what they paid, and even after raising the prices, they're still running at a loss.

A handful of users abused the system so all are getting punished.

This isn't about a few high-usage users. The reality is that approximately 22.5% of our users are consuming 20x what they're currently paying us. This isn't sustainable for us to continue delivering the quality service you expect. We have built some very powerful tools and we don’t want to impose artificial limits on what’s possible, but we do need to be able to charge in proportion to the use customers are getting from our platform. Developers are always going to push their tools to their limits, and we encourage that — and we need to be able to charge for it appropriately, too.

You only care about professional developers.

Our core focus is on building the best AI coding agent for professional software engineers and their teams. If people outside of that group are finding value with Augment, they are very welcome to use the product, but we’re not prioritizing features or solutions that non-developers might need, and frankly, there are plenty of vibe coding/low code/no code solutions available on the market that will better serve those customers.

You are just squeezing money out of us at 20x margin.

20x margin sounds great, but isn’t the reality for AI tools: the vast majority are running at a loss, including us, while we work to build sustainable, long-term businesses.

Fed. judge fines lawyer $5,000 for AI-generated filing that contained fabricated citations. He also has to alert future parties/judges.

The Court further has no difficulty finding that Mr. Johnson's misconduct was more than mere recklessness. The Court notes that errors can happen in filings despite attorneys’ (and even judges’) best efforts. Yet the insertion of bogus citations is not a mere typographical error, nor the subject of reasonable debate. It is just wrong. There has been a plethora of general warnings from courts, bar associations, and the legal community at large about the risks of bogus citations generated by AI. Mr. Johnson even acknowledged that he was aware of such issues with other AI programs like ChatGPT. The fact he states he was unaware that a program such as Ghostwriter Legal could make such errors does not negate such a finding. Having been aware of the pitfalls of a failure to check citations supplied by another source, he still parroted citations generated by Ghostwriter Legal without verifying them. Ultimately such conduct reflects a complete and utter disregard for his professional duty of candor and is tantamount to bad faith. Thus, the Court will impose an appropriate sanction under its inherent authority.

Ich war auch ein 'early Adopter' nachdem ich vom stationären Buchhandel völlig entnervt war: unfähig, lieferbare Bücher zu bestellen oder Erscheinungstermine zu finden. Und ein totaler Albtraum bei Print aus USA oder UK.

Schnell mal zum Buchladen um die Ecke - das wird immer schwieriger. Obwohl die Branche mehr Umsatz macht, gibt es immer weniger Geschäfte. Das Statistikamt nennt auch mögliche Gründe für den Rückgang.

It depends on the contract! Sometimes the author's royalty is a percentage of the cover price (in which case, it doesn't matter where you buy it). For small press book deals, a royalty that's a percentage of net sales is common. In that case, what the writer makes depends on what the press nets.
