I saw the trailer ages ago on Tom & Lorenzo. It looks gorgeous. There are JLo ride or dies, like my 67-year-old mom, who'd go see this if they knew about it. Actually my mom is basically the perfect audience for this -- a Jennifer Lopez fan who also loves musicals, especially darker musicals.

I was a Young Republican for a brief time in the 1980s (for real). I promise you they talked like this back then. They didn’t know I was Jewish, so the Holocaust jokes flowed freely. It all helped radicalize me against the right.

For those tempted to say Young Republicans have always been this way, they really have not. When I worked on campus and did bipartisan college events after, they were very much not like this.

That’s why groups like YCT and eventually TPUSA formed — because Young Republicans weren’t radical enough.

And what many of them missed in their rush to call Obama unmanly or a faker for crying is that he wept not only from sorrow, but also with rage. They had to cast his reaction as either false or weak. Because otherwise they'd have to contemplate why he was angry & with who.

October seemed like the right month for finally watching Yellowjackets.

I'm not quite through season 1 and I'm loving the braiding of Gothic, folk, and body horror to focus on teen girls and middle-aged women.

Also, I love how this era of TV gives us stories about women over 40.

The lead characters of Yellowjackets as adults at their high school reunion.

My favorite aspect of the Columbus legend is him getting rejected by the Portuguese gets spun as them not recognizing the genius of his idea. No - he went into a roomful of expert navigators and made basic math mistakes, they thought he was a moron, and they wouldn't fund his idea on that basis.
