I had a few gripes with the film but overall liked it.
1. It was overly sexual. How many sex scenes does a film really need?
2. The central part of the story was very similar to From Dusk till Dawn.
3. The ending scene might have played better at night as a 3-way fight. Vamps/racists/survivors.

Auditioned for VAMPS show. My mind blanked (and flashed back to a bad phone call I had earlier in the day) during the middle of the first verse twice and so I had to start again twice. But the third time I got all ten verses out (mostly, a couple of fudged lines) so third time the charm and such.

Really the way to go is Sam Cooke live at Harlem Square club where he does a couple of those long vamps between songs, with band playing softly behind, where he’s just name dropping the titles of his hits but weaving them together like it’s a little story. Got the crowd in his palm. Just fantastic.

I've actually played more than one Jewish Tremere. The other is a shochet, and Prince. She's given my players lots and lots of nightmares.
They come to me years later and "complain" about how they still think about those scenes in her butcher shop.
Not the most Orthodox of my vamps, though.

I unfortunately did watch some of the movies nominated... ugg what a bad year. Weapons was horrible, and Sinners while well made was boring. The vamps are barley in it. Oh well...

Sinners was great until the last act when they got bored and thought *SPOILER* ‘fuck it, done enough build-up, that’ll do - kill the lot in one swoop & let the sun take care of the vamps. Easy…wrap party! 🥳’ Was stunned at how lazy it was!

Those fads have always existed, though. Before vamps and werewolves, it was sword & sorcery and Arthuriana. Before that, it was high fantasy. And even if the fads are overrepresented, the other subgenres still EXIST. Finding them requires a little googling, of course, but they're there.
