Doomsday excruciator is bbbbb, ardyn is 5bbb, a bunch of black top end have 3 black pips or more (phyrexian obliterator is no longer in standard but bbbb) valgavoth?

Not too hard to exile 4-5 cards with boast and get the 3 you need back?
Doomsday Excruciator
{B}{B}{B}{B}{B}{B} • Creature — Demon • 6/6 • Flying When this creature enters, if it was cast, each player exiles all but the bottom six cards of their library face down. At the beginning of your upk...

Tbf, that is probably the most fun way to play Commander. I also play Valgavoth, so I also like to burn people for playing the game, too, lol.

i couldn’t do OC magic cards because I would just turn Eva into Valgavoth 2

I gotchu fam.
Group slug with:
Valgavoth/Lord of Pain

Basically ping damage for whenever a player attempts to play magic.

OR

My favorite Wheel/Burn with Nekusar.
Ping people for drawing > force more draws > more damage.

It's so fun in my Valgavoth Hand Size Burn deck

I put Lord of Pain in my new Davros list that's all about choices, and I think it'll do some good work making people think about what they're doing. I almost put Valgavoth and Talion in too, but it started to feel like I should just build a Nekusar deck, and that wasn't my goal.

Starting to suspect Seanan McGuire may actually *be* Valgavoth...
(And let's be honest. NOTHING is ever going to be "my" plane the way Duskmourn is. They let me go full fucking FERAL over that plane. I touched every inch of the wainscotting. I may or may not have a Duskmourn novel fully outlined just in case. It's mine, I licked it.)

This is where we learn that you have been Valgavoth this entire time
December 3, 2025 at 10:03 PM
like how do you interpret this as anything but valgavoth symbolically giving birth
December 3, 2025 at 8:21 PM
thank you for being a fellow valgavoth girl agenda spreader... she definitely does feel like a mother figure in a way both distinct and similar to norn with how the various antagonistic subgroups worship her as a sort of nurturer and life-giver... it's a much more compelling interpretation tbh

There is also one more minor point I forgot to bring up because I have ADHD and it's effects on my life are constantly apparent.

Marina calls Valgavoth Val. Now, Val as a proper name will bring to mind, obviously, Val Kilmer, but when you think of Val as a nickname, that's not the same thing.

With all due disrespect to Aetherdrift, you could probably convince Valgavoth to read High Maintenance Speed Whore. New and exciting prospects for Winter.
December 3, 2025 at 5:20 PM
good thread. i think there's a bunch of (misogynistic) factors at play to make this the case. valgavoth is positioned as a potential universal threat for magical gatherings broader story, and just after they botched one assimilating mother figure i imagine they didn't want to run back elesh norn

Anyways, Valgavoth is a transfeminized villain and I will accept no official canon stating otherwise.
December 3, 2025 at 4:51 PM
Also and this is idle speculation, but it wouldn't surprise me if Yawgmoth was in some way the inspiration for Valgavoth. Phonetically the names are very similar but as well as the ways in which they supplanted worlds and changed them to their own visions, creating personal torture hells, is...well.
December 3, 2025 at 4:51 PM
Valgavoth's male association and prescription seems to come from being both large and hulking in stature but also...because Valgavoth is a villain. The number of true female villains in Magic is incredibly small, and it wasn't until Phyrexia: All Will Be One imo where we got it unambiguously.

This can even be seen in the ways in which Valgavoth unwittingly helps the inhabitants of the house. Much of the violence of the house is not only male but from distinct actors, i.e. the Lord of Pain. But the help from the house, the caretaker, is decidedly femininely framed

This, as well, despite the use of the word Father by its worshippers, is the distinct lack of that dynamic with Marina. In a direct sense, they seem to exist as equals, with Valgavoth going through great pains to hide its demonic nature and what it's doing from Marina at all times.
December 3, 2025 at 4:32 PM
Whether Marina is made marginalized by the most likely and obvious reason, her non-whiteness, or with the addition of other factors like queerness is not made apparent in the story. But given the role of Valgavoth as subjugated caretaker, a role given to increasingly marginalized women...
December 3, 2025 at 4:26 PM
Valgavoth is also not the owner of the home, but it's usurper. It is unsurprising to consider that Valgavoth would connect with and bond with Marina Vendrell. The implied marginalization of Marina as a result of some unknown factor (more on this) is parallel to Valgavoth's direct marginalization.
December 3, 2025 at 4:24 PM
Valgavoth IS the house...in a sense, Valgavoth is the object of purchase and its caretaker, and the horror that comes as a result of Duskmourne is much the same as echoed in many horror media revolving the narrative structure of the home: what if man could not feel safe in his own home?
December 3, 2025 at 4:20 PM
Valgavoth's depiction in art, the way in which Valgavoth is associated, is almost unmistakably yonic. Gaping maws, circular doorways present at the bottom of massive figures, so on and so forth.
December 3, 2025 at 4:17 PM
Thinking about how against all literary and subtextual evidence to the contrary, Magic still refers to Valgavoth as male.
