#use-cases
it's wild how the positive use cases are like "save 5 minutes reading a long doc" and "write a generic email faster" and the negative use cases are "get encouraged to dive deeper in psychosis, misogyny, or suicidal thoughts" and we're still on the fence about overall value
New from 404 Media: ChatGPT told a violent stalker to continue running his misogynistic and threat-filled podcast despite the “haters,” and to visit more gyms to find women. The man stalked women in multiple states, including touching and following from work

Why are artists being pushed to use alt text here? I dont understand it.

...Define "appropriate use cases".
Sega just stated it will use AI to assist in development, but only in "appropriate use cases."

Me before becoming a CS professor: "with tightly scoped and heavily regulated use-cases, it's worth developing an extremely limited form of AI"

Me after 3 years as a CS professor: "we have to destroy all AI of any and every kind immediately and ban any future development work of any kind"

Failing vindictive prosecutions prove a pattern. That EVERYONE targeted should use in their defense cases against this criminal regime. Weaponized government could not be more obvious.

it's a shame btc mining asics are so specialized, because I'm sure I could come up with some fun use cases for a cheap sha256 accelerator board

Sega says it will start implementing efficient development methods, including the use of AI.

However, because it knows AI use "faces strong resistance in creative areas", it pledges to only use it in "appropriate use cases".

Also, I hope people sue the BOP into oblivion.

I am well aware of the PLRA. But when you have x-ray techs shunted into guard duty, need to beg for food when the whole prison is days away from nothing, and tell women to use socks for feminine hygiene, judges might start letting those §1983 cases in.

I still think it's just a matter of time until SCOTUS starts ruling in Trump cases on the merits and he's suddenly going to start losing cases. Otherwise, the Court will end up neutering themselves. A coronated king will have no use for them anymore.

Look, broadly speaking, I'm pro automated vehicles. When the tech is ready, there are many use cases & goodness knows human drivers are dangerous. But it's bonkers to me that companies get to treat our streets as test beds, and us as test subjects, without our consent.

Dems only use public opinion in the rare cases it supports their ideology, like that 2014 Princeton study concluded public opinion has zero effect on policy and it hasn’t gotten better in the last 11 years. we need to think past the Dems, not wait for them to “wake up” bc they never will

As a lover of wagon/estates, this has always infuriated me. An SUV is just a wagon with a higher ride height (which arguably makes it a worse commuter vehicle in the vast majority of it's use cases).

Want to hear my theory of theories? Theories are a form of knowledge transfer: knowledge that has been acquired in one case can be applied to another. But the problem is that you need to be sure that the different cases are similar in all relevant aspects and that’s where use of theory can go wrong.

imo reasoning implies agency and volition.

in general I think using anthropomorphizing language like "reasoning" is counterproductive because it shifts the discussion away from the actually valuable use cases for statistically-determined output
