#stratification
Lots of seeds need cold stratification. But to successfully germinate, THESE require first warm, then cold stratification. Outdoors, you would plant them in late summer and hope for germination in spring. It may be that we end up doing that after all, but first, we’re gonna fake it.

So the seeds get a month or so in the windowsill in the bathroom, where they will be warm and moist. Then they get to spent early spring in the garden for cold stratification.

Will it work? No idea!

isn't to discount the way nationality is employed by the imperialist system as a technology of stratification - that borders and citizenship stratify the worker by race+nation, that tagged chains are networks of core-periphery extraction, that land is occupied - but to contextualize it in flows

in the elite circles of the US, racism is treated less as a matter of social stratification with direct implications for political stakes and more as a matter of moral etiquette. it is even more notable, then, that this administration can't constrain themselves to the meager associated standards

I planted Sulphur Buckwheat (Eriogonum umbellatum) & Douglas' Dustymaiden (Chaenactis douglasii) seeds in trays for the Treasure Valley Native Plant Network & Golden Eagle Audubon Society for bird habitat restoration. Cold moist stratification is required for germination. Freezing rain coming up.

Further, Liberals consistently court with big business, who, thanks to the inherent stratification of neoliberal capitalism, encourages a neo-feudal, authoritarian mindset in the minds of billionaires, thus, liberals cannot effectively counter the influence of business in perpetuating fascism.

There are certainly lady standouts, even early. But fantasy wasn’t invented so much as subjected to stratification to take advantage of sweet sweet nerd money. I wouldn’t be so proud of that if I were you.

(Who can’t see this because I blocked the shit out of you.)

Hum drum day at work the past few days. I livened things up by getting some paeonia mlokoaewischii seeds soaking overnight. This morning I put them in some moist soil for warm stratification. No onions up yet which is dissatisfying. At least another amaryllis is showing some color.

social media has basically stripped away all of the useful signifiers and layers of social stratification that exist in real life, and left us with a pretty flat network where everyone is guessing how much to trust everyone else, solely based on what they’re saying at the moment.

What did psychopaths even do before the invention of patriarchy and hierarchically stratified society? Like the Cucuteni–Trypillia culture existed from 5050 to 2950 BC in Southeastern Europe and had almost nonexistent social stratification. How did psychopaths even survive??

And trans men are often tasked with walking right into that, face first, with next to no warning. As soon as they start to pass, it's sink or swim "you're either with the misogynists or you're a target" social stratification, especially when they're younger!

Important new research by @jamessmurphy.bsky.social about the continued changes in student enrollments after the SFFA decisions in 2023. The story is complex when looking across the US system & highlights how SFFA is intensifying racial stratification of higher ed.
Class Action's new report on post-SFFA enrollment outcomes is featured in the NYT today. 🧵https://www.nytimes.com/2026/02/03/us/colleges-see-major-racial-shifts-in-student-enrollment.html?unlocked_article_code=1.JVA.m6aZ.vbFHPEWkRca_&smid=bs-share

Okay plant people, help me understand something. I was just sorting my tree seeds for cold stratification and the instructions for a bunch of species said “soak for 24 hours then cold wet stratify for X days.” The seeds are going to be soaking in their cold paper towels for weeks, why soak first?
