I give thanks for access to places such as this where the landscape makes a statement - sometimes a startling one. For the terrain's tendency to inspire an artistic impulse. And for my ability to recognize and try to interpret what I feel when immersed in such a place.

A roughly triangular mound of eroded mudstone occupies the center of the image, with rays of eroded material fanning out in all directions from its base. Beyond in the middle distance is a row of dark trees, behind which - in the far distance - rises a whitish set of steep cliffs. The sky is dark and featureless.

A jumble of shapes and colors make it hard to focus on a particular element, but two stand out: The flat, angled boulder at the bottom, and the central pointed mudstone mound at top center. Between these features we see a line of incipient hoodoos weathering out of the tilted surface. In the upper distance is a jagged ridgeline against the clear blue sky.

This pinkish rock face plays host to a colony of lichen of a radiating circular pattern, with deep orange shades on the outer band and pale cyan colored growth on the inside of the arc. Several smaller patches of orange lichen populate the upper portion of the boulder.
