Please note that oil and gas are allowed to claim the 45Q tax credit without any verification that they actually captured the CO2 they said they did — and certainly without having to sequester the carbon 🤡
UPDATE: 3 things I learned today
1) Political leaders haven’t thought much about the health threats of CO2 capture and storage. Eg CO2 pipelines have kill zones. Leaks can acidify aquifers and mobilize heavy metals.
2) 45Q tax credits for CCS are now by far the biggest subsidy to oil and gas

The looming sequester was being used as political cover. My leadership at USAWC & TRADOC approved & out I went for a week or so of tdy. My colleague, who is brilliant, had over designed his course. Like just too much of everything. It was making the heads of the teaching/training cadre hurt. 7/

That my GS15 line was in an authorizations act from like 2009 or so, but no one had been appropriating funds for it since like 2012, which is why when the money ran out at the beginning of the sequester, I cleared post, and became a contractor. 23/
