Do want to note that this is one of the few times I've been impressed by a Netflix anime batch-dropping; not only is the show's episode count removed from the normal two cour's worth (22-26), but the episode lengths vary to match the narrative's rhythm. Breaking convention aided the screenwriting.

A mantra in one of my screenwriting circles is CBV.

Clarity - Brevity - Voice

Often times we focus on Voice too early and that obfuscates the core message being communicated.

Be Clear, then edit for Brevity, then sprinkle in Voice.

I don't find this (popular) quote in Lewis Carroll's original writings (snrk.de/some-texts). It's probably from the screenwriting of some Alice movies.

Study Tár if you struggle with dialogue. Nothing in it is “about” what people say. It’s about power. Yet, Lydia rarely raises her voice. She frames conversations so other people reveal themselves while she stays protected.

The idea that certain events happen on certain pages in screenwriting sounds ridiculous because it is.

But so are training wheels. Which is what those suggestions are.

Once you get comfortable with that rhythm, you can drop it and focus on the story's actual needs instead.

A past informs your character’s motives (why they do what they do) and your character’s attitudes (how they respond to the events and people around them).
