WE'VE REACHED LAUNCH FROM UNDERNEATH

It has been 4 sleepless nights getting the page ready for today. There's still work to be done but we made it. I'm nervous, exhausted, and unfathomably excited.

Come get your copy of Ambition, lets see how far these wax wings can fly.

Gah, I'm at work... I swear this is my first task when I get home tonight. Those rewards look amazing. I need the Art Bible... 🤩

I wish corporate training resources would enable the speed controls for the sake of accessibility. The videos go too slow for me to pay attention to them. I want it at 1.25x or 1.5x. I'm sure others would prefer it at 0.75x.

Please let us control how we best consume training materials.

Ooh, Perfect Blue in theaters makes me jealous.

I was charmed by Cat People. Not at all what I was expecting after watching Schrader's remake...

This can produce a feedback loop where criticism of the genre itself escalates that feeling of isolation and stubbornness.

It's an interesting example of an audience that sympathizes with exactly the character aspects that prevent them from engaging with the critique offered by the films they love.

It's easy to understand how this appeals to film bros who recognize themselves as somewhere on that arc.

They fantasize about these characters because they want that glimpse at total power and control. They don't think it'll last forever - or that it won't pervert them.

But it still attracts them.

Part of what makes "film bro" work as a target of critique is a kind of stubbornness that resists the lessons or morals intended by the filmmakers.

The protags in these movies often exhibit the same stubbornness. And they usually find validation in escalating their isolation.
mxhen.bsky.social
There are interesting reasons the film bro fandom has a hard time with the criticism, though. They often sympathize with aspects of their canon that are explicitly criticized by the films themselves. Tyler Durden or Travis Bickle are explicitly NOT heroic. They "get it" but then ignore the point.
mxhen.bsky.social
Having lived through multiple eras of nerd fandom purity testing, I guarantee that the film bros can handle it. Others are allowed to dislike the things you like. And they are allowed to find the entire aesthetic distasteful. And they have the right to avoid film bro movies.
mxhen.bsky.social
But mostly, it's a valid subgenre to critique. The film bro canon has common themes and perspectives that are worth analyzing. The found audiences of these films have a certain way about them that also invites critique.

That's a good thing. Otherwise the subgenre would be devoid of artistic value.

It's amusing when people struggle to grasp that "film bro" is, in fact, a totally sensical way to classify movies. It's a term that shifts between positive, negative and ironic connotations depending on what films are catching hype this year (or whatever video essay most recently went viral.)

Not exactly a swear, but my favorite regional pejorative from my home state is "cake-eater" and it's used to describe people from exactly one city.

Point being, if you get local enough it gets more creative again.
