Profits over people
that about sums it all up

Reading through the FT at the moment is a strange experience: revolution, war, disaster, brutal autocratic oppression, mad dictator shit....and then "markets continue to thrive"; "record profits".

Productivity up. Profits up. Wages down.
The economy is performing exactly as the 1% designed it.

Classic profits before people.

This is what a lot of people (including Sky!) were trying to say - there is no money in Venezuelan oil. If there’s profits to be had they will, like in Iraq, come from the U.S. Treasury
reading between the lines, what they're pretty clearly asking for is a profit guarantee from the US taxpayer (at like 40 bucks a barrel) and I'd bet they get it too

Until the internet ate its business model, newspapers were a license to print money. They didn’t have to talk profits because profits were a given.
In the late 90s, when newspapers started talking about profits…

Money is really bad for journalism.

I have an idea. Tax corporations a reasonable amount and then 10% of their profits will “go to the USA.” You don’t need to do this on a company-by-company basis.

Greenland says it cannot accept US takeover ‘under any circumstances’.

Trump must be resisted at the outset, it it is as as slippery as slope for everyone.

Trump wants mineral wealth to boost profits of US corporations who fund the political system.

Major powers always use force to grab assets of other countries.

US has initiated 201 out of 248 armed conflicts since the end of WWII.

Vast swathes of the world destabilised to lubricate the US economy and boost corporate profits.

Resentment grows. There has to be a better way.
Donald Trump’s imperialism is the latest tool to advance the hegemony of US capital
Trump's policies are not isolationism. They're seeking to thwart the emergence of a multipolar world.

This is Thatcher’s Tory sewage party legacy: privatised pipes, collapsing grids, 25k+ people left dry while shareholders slurp profits. Kent and Sussex get Thatcherism straight from the gutter. Absolute Tory vandalism.

When the New York Times asked Trump about his family’s expanding foreign business interests that Trump himself still profits from, he said:

“I found out that nobody cared, and I’m allowed to.”

Yet more evidence that the Trump Administration believes that corporate profits are more important than American lives.

When I’m Governor, I’ll have four words for Donald Trump: not on my watch.
Under President Trump, the EPA will stop considering lives saved when setting pollution limits and instead calculate only the cost to businesses. It’s counter to the agency’s mission statement, which says has a core responsibility to protect human health and the environment. nyti.ms/3Loch27

Donald Trump’s imperialism is the latest tool to advance the hegemony of US capital.

Corporations funded Trump and his entourage and their return is mineral and asset grabs, overriding international laws, shelter from competition and making excess profits.

Instability is inevitable.

End stage capitalism? No. Final Round Capitalism. Nothing to lose, profits to gain, sacrifice it all for the company. And when the nation is the failing company: liquidate all the assets

Extraordinary is an understatement. They will lower interest rates so they can maximize profits and let inflation run wild. They care about deals and short term profits. To hell with the economy for the rest of us.

Nothing says "healthcare" like inflating diagnoses to inflate profits. UnitedHealth turned Medicare Advantage coding into a profit game, mining patient data to increase government payouts.

Medicare gets drained and seniors get paperwork, not better care.🧾 💸
