look if you're gonna do philosophy you can't play calvinball with definitions just because it's inconvenient to your self-conception as a Modern, not if you're going to claim to be guarding modernism!

This kind of observation is probably why the alt-right hates post-modernism so much.

It's funny how post modernism enabled the far right so much when opposing it used to be one of their whole big things.
my emerging theory is that the political press literally does not believe in objective reality in any meaningful sense. there is only what A says and what B says and how that affects the horse race

In today's lecture on Branding I gave our 1st year undergrads a brief overview of Modernism and Postmodernism (v brief!). I showed this cartoon which I've used many times over the years for PoMo. Today it hits really hard in a different way.

0.01% of car dealership owners are benevolent local millionaires who are why a small town can have a nice public park or street lights when it otherwise couldn't, the rest are the backbone of modernism Nazism as a political project.

Sadly missed the Leopold’s Hidden Modernism exhibition, but the catalogue arrived today and is as seductive/erotic/disturbing/intriguing as one could hope. Assuming those feelings are what one hopes for.

I honestly don't know [I have little Latin, and no Greek... ;-)], but it's often very clear that in the 20th century in particular, a kind of subliminal Marxism-modernism comes over people when they see a word that could be 'revolution'...

I've always liked May takes on films books etc, but the switch to... anti-modernism and pro-occultism? I find it not for me. Not that I'm the biggest fan of difficult post-modern/modernist fiction, but the notion that it's just what's causing all the modern evils in fiction... I don't see it.

I've been trying to think through this post (and her video on "modernist" literature that includes post-modernism) and I simply don't see this being the case at all. In broad strokes, the literary landscape is more Fourth Wing than Ducks, Newburyport. I don't know where this pov is coming from.

Great news! I've been invited to attend Intersect Art and Design in Palm Springs. The event aligns perfectly with Modernism Week. The vibe in the desert during those dates (February 12–16, 2026) is absolutely fantastic. Jacqui Barcos and I will be there to meet you. www.instagram.com/p/DT0Z9wslfe...

while tim cook is riding trump in the white house, maybe it's time to deconstruct the myth that apple is a good example for the design world: their products are by default ecocidal, their aesthetics do not age well at all, their creative choices are rooted in the racist philosophy of modernism.
