Looking up along the Redwood on the right of frame, while a leaning Redwood cuts across from top to middle lower frame, causing an interesting perspective of trees going everywhere. Shot on Canon 24-50mm. Wide shot of the trees within the Grove of Titans, with one fallen and wedged between others. In the lower distance to the left some other hikers may be seen for scale. Shot with Rokinon 14mm lens. A hollowed out Redwood corpse that looks like giant splinters spiraling upwards, surrounded by still living trees basking in the light which filters through. Yes! Me too! I’ve just returned from my first ever visit to the Jedediah Smith and the Prairie Creek Redwoods… it was amazing. I’m still so very much in awe of those gorgeous magnificent trees. I know that feeling will remain with me for years to come.

The Stout Grove of redwoods, Jedediah Smith State Park, is accessible from a dirt forest service road from the Crescent City area (or you can walk the Hiouchi Trail, as I did). Lots of big trees here. Easy walking. #RedwoodTrails
A smooth path leads through an old-growth redwood forest, with huge ferns on the forest floor. Two large redwoods frame a path, with other trees behind them and more large ferns on the forest floor. Two massive redwood trunks. I tried to find a way to show the size of these beauties, but without having a human or something for scale, I've rarely been successful. Another effort at scale. This old tree really displays its ragged bark. Redwood trunk base amidst ferns.

Boy Scout Tree Trail, Jedediah Smith Redwoods. This tree takes some seeking out and is easy to miss because the tree is just off the trail named for it and there is (was then) no sign. It has its own webpage but some of the details are in alt text. famousredwoods.com/boy_scout/ #RedwoodTrails
Two trees fused into one. Hard to see the scale of this monster, but it is huge. Over 23 feet wide, 238 feet tall. Lighting wasn't good that day for photos, but there are plenty on its webpage. That sign is about 2 feet wide, and it looks like nothing. Sign shown in previous photo, dwarfed by the size of the tree. Looking up, you can see the evidence of two trunks that fused together. And as remarkable as this tree is, it's only one of several named big trees on this trail. Maybe I'll do a second post with some of the other trees I saw here, though none were even close to the size of this one.
