When a random web hosting provider has a better abuse department than the Chrome Web Store you know the Web Store is a dump

During Trump 1 there used to be an extension for Chrome which rendered all his tweets in a crayon font, honestly made them more understandable
You have to admit these letters from Trump to foreign governments would actually seem less bizarre if they had been written in crayon

A malvertising campaign is using a fake ad-blocking Chrome and Edge extension named NexShield that intentionally crashes the browser in preparation for ClickFix attacks.

Had the same thing recently with suddenly needing to install a chrome extension to access google docs offline (and presumably loads of other basic functionality I didn’t spot). I know this is a rhetorical question, but why make your products progressively less good?

I figured it might, and Vivaldi is in the database, fortunately. I like their commitment to privacy and no AI. I haven't really found a site yet that won't work in it, and it can use nearly any extension that's in the chrome store.

The Margin extension has reached 100 users within days of releasing in the Chrome Web Store

Thank you everyone for your support, we really appreciate it.

A lot of the time, you still can easily download videos - you just gotta a) use Firefox, and b) press Shift while right clicking, to get the native right-click context menu instead of the website-provided custom one. As for Chrome, there might be an extension for Shift+rightclick, too?

i actually already have a couple tools that do something similar ("kill grok slop" and "aggro twitter filter" chrome extension) but i will have to rework the code. but when it's done, i'll make it open source, if i get around to it this week.

Tried out #claude #code #chrome extension today - worked pretty well giving it a task to debug a CMS issue I had, but beware - by default it is given permissions for ANY site in Chrome. Remember to go to extension settings and only give it access to sites you want (localhost, etc.).

alright, i've been fully nerd sniped by this and started making a chrome/firefox extension

I rolled out a simple browser extension for hiding reposts on Bluesky, it's on Chrome Web Store now :)

chromewebstore.google.com/detail/blues...

By default, it hides reposts from all feeds on the Home page (except for Following). You can add or delete feed names to enable/disable reposts in them.

Wrote a basic Chrome extension for hiding reposts in custom lists on Bluesky. Not on Chrome store yet, so it's local installation for now. Instructions inside.

May improve it later when I have some time.

Feel free to install/fork/etc! (it's messy tho 😅)

TIL that Chrome/Google is the reason all my websites were freezing my PC. I was still using AdBlock; switched to the UBlock Origin extension and the issue INSTANTLY resolved itself.

This shit had been bugging me for nearly a year.

Now I should probably just switch to using Opera browser tbh...
January 22, 2026 at 3:24 AM
tbh I think the basic Microsoft defender that comes with the laptop plus using Firefox/Chrome with uBlock extension is all you need. Just don't download and run strange .exe files. And if you do need to download software make sure you're doing it from the official site, not an aggregator.

what are recognizable strings that are not intellegible and yet you immediately know what they're about? i.e. youtube video IDs, chrome extension IDs, base64 in general...

PSA for web dev critters: if you use the JSON Formatter extension for Chrome, consider uninstalling it. The latest version of it injects HTML into several sites trying to get you to use the creator's affiliate code via GiveFreely, which funnels some money into their wallets and some into a charity.
