Every story is narrated in some way, and the way we decide to implement narration can be crucial to the way readers interact with our writing. So what is your favourite type of narration saying about your work?

In grad school, the #novelest #KenKesey taught me to notice the past perfect moving into simple past & thereby to look for #writingtechniques in every #book I read.

I remember learning this trick in grad school and it immediately livening my prose. (Next stop: less flashbacks.)
As a copy editor, I would tend to let a flashback begin with the had done this and had done that stuff for a few sentences, and at a certain good point (you'll know it when you see it), you switch to the simple past tense and drop all the hads. It works like a charm.
