#Underdevelopment
Scholars like Walter Rodney do not claim that bullion ~automatically~ converts feudal landlords into profit-maximizing capitalists. He claimed that Europe’s development and Africa’s underdevelopment were historically co-constituted through coerced labor and unequal exchange.

Fukuyama is a real howler sometimes.

"For if, as dependency theory claimed, Third World underdevelopment was due to the participation of less developed countries in the global capitalist order, how could one possibly explain the phenomenal economic growth that had occurred in countries"

Parenti's Perspective: Colonialism as Exploitation & Oppression

Michael Parenti dismissed the "civilizing mission" narrative. He characterized colonialism as

Systematic theft: A mechanism to seize land, labor & resources for imperial profit, resulting in deliberate underdevelopment.

Rodney's core thesis: underdevelopment is not a lack of development, but an active process where the wealth of one region is created by the impoverishment of another.

U.S.A.: Country in the process of underdevelopment.
We are in Medieval times.

16 cases are linked to a church, which followed exposures at four schools last week.

The outbreaks are threatening to cost the country its measles elimination status, which was earned in 2000 after vaccination efforts stopped the virus from spreading continuously. 🧪

“Degrowth is primarily a project for the Global North.”
— The Future Is Degrowth
I am skimming it but it seems to agree with my points.
"“When we say ‘degrowth,’ we are talking about high-income countries. The Global South has been forced into underdevelopment and needs more resources, not fewer.”

Vulnerable communities inhabiting mining territories continue to endure decades of poverty, neglect, and underdevelopment.

This undermines their ability to fully exercise their rights and fully and effectively participate in decision-making processes that affect them.

During the US sponsored dictatorshit here in Brazil the USAID (yeah that USAID) took over the educational system and redesigned our entire curriculum, and did it in a way that curbed the local development of research in several fields. The underdevelopment of our research is their legacy here.
Heartbreaking. The University of Nebraska will terminate its entire Earth science department.

One of the country's most successful and respected geology & climate programs: gone.

When ideologues & politicians are threatened by the very act of studying climate change, I wonder: who of us is next?
It's over.

Despite the fact that the academic council recommended against it, despite the fact that the program brought in more tuition than it cost, and despite the fact that Nebraskans need & deserve this expertise, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences will be cut.

Yes- it definitely is hard to relate to Macbeth when Duncan seems so benign in the underdevelopment of his character. The act seems so much more cruel and rash after the praise heaped on Macbeth.

Stuff to watch for with scams accounts: ability to evade repeat suspensions, flawless English (may mean AI assists), multiple accounts using the same links & images posting all hours of the day. Stories not adding up. Also watch for highly manipulative language designed to bypass critical thinking.

Long ago, China plotted a course to be a developed nation. They announced to the world that they were through with underdevelopment. A nation that was once pictured with trash piles, is now pictured with elegant cities. Don't tell US to accept poor, instead, present incentives for business startups!

Genuinely this is the most fun I've had making a game in so long!
0.5.0 just dropped, 0.6.0 is underdevelopment!
I made another game on Scratch!
It's an arcade shooter called PewPew
Though it's only on version 0.2.0, I'd love to share my funny little game with the whoever sees this post!

Jason Hickel on how delinking can, "enable Southern states to escape imperialist exploitation, overcome underdevelopment, meet human needs, & undertake ecological transition. Freedom & dignity for global majority requires delinking... non-polar world can be established"

What is Delinking?
The concept of delinking has gained traction recently among some political movements in the global South, including with an international conference in

It’s quite a dated term referring back to the Cold War. What he should have said is underdeveloped countries mostly in the global south. one of the causes of this underdevelopment being exploitation by the wealthier developed countries.

this is all nazi shit but it’s particularly galling to see the idea of someone being from a “failed state” presented as an indictment of them or their culture.

underdevelopment and “failed states” largely happen because of imperialism and extractive global capitalism—not personal/cultural failings.
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization
