NGL I find this series where ABC news covers the media coverage of the Iowa Straw Poll as if it's a natural disaster absolutely hilarious. It's aged in this weird way where all the relevant comedic ideas are more pertinent now than they were then, but with a completely different set of connections.
1979/11/19-20 [Zonker watching TV] TV: Good evening. Today the small town of Rosewater, Indiana was hit suddenly by a three-network media event. It was the worst media event in recent memory. / TV: There had been no warning. When the tiny local Republican caucus convened last night for it's Presidential straw poll, only light coverage had been forecasted.. / TV:..But before it was over, the unsuspecting town would be buffeted by wave after wave of reporters, its citizens interviewed again and again, leaving them dazed and famous. Roland Hedley has details. / Hedley: People were just sitting down to dinner when Walter Cronkite's limousine glided up to Ray's Tackle Shop Roland on TV: This is Roland Hedley. It was shortly after dusk when the media event first swept through the small hoosier hamlet of Rosewater.. / Roland: Members of the Rosewater GOP caucus had just cast the first ballot in a Presidential straw poll. The caucus member Al Fender explains what happened next. / Fender: It was awful. The hot lights, the cameras. Some of us tried to stay off the record, but it was hopeless. We were forced to stand by helplessly as our remarks were blown all out of proportion! / Hedley: And the poll results? Fender: Stripped of their context! Right there in front of our families! 1979/11/21-22 Hedley: A media event. Until last night, for the people of Rosewater it had only been an expression. Victims Ray and Ellen McNeil recall their nightmare. / Ray: I guess it started right after the caucus vote. The family had picked me up at the VFW Hall, and we walked a few blocks home... / Ray: As we got to the front yard, I see this feller in a safari-type jacket running at us. He was yelling and waving and kept tripping over this long, purple scarf. It was Geraldo Rivera. / Ray: "Get the kids inside," I shouted to Ellen... Ellen: We were scared. We'd seen what he'd done to Elvis' doctor. [Mark watching TV] TV: For the citizens of Rosewater, the Media Event is over. But the scars linger on. Caucus member Shelly Simms shares her trauma and shame. / Simms on TV: Well, I was just leaving the VFW Hall when I first saw them. I tried to flee, but there were too many of them. A big one, with a microphone cornered me.. / Simms: I tried to resist, I tried to tell him it was just a straw poll, that it didn't mean anything, but he.. he.. Reporter: He what, Ms Simms? / Simms: He interviewed me! Repeatedly! Reporter: Who, Ms Simms? Who did this to you? Was it Roger Mudd?

So you simmer the milk with lemon peel, orange peel, two cinnamon quills, green cardamom pods, nutmeg, a clove. Strain, and add vanilla and a touch of rosewater. No ginger (important!), as the milk will curdle.

been having a fun time treating and training my olfactory system and really getting into perfume... i haven't worn all of these yet most of these are just first impressions after spraying them on testing paper, but i had a lot of thoughts on secretions magnifiques
- Fortis Wet woods. Gloomy. Has little prickling incense-y flavors. Stays on real long and strong, it's possible I slightly over-sprayed because the smell was a bit strong. I woke up still smelling like it. - Dom Rosa Like if you had rosewater with a tiny pinch of lemon, along with the smell of incense in the air. Musky and lusty. - Blanche Bête Milky and pleasant. Like if baby powder has a delicate and soft smell and wasn't so crude. Very pretty and ethereal. - Fleur De Sable Iffy. Rose smell plays with the feeling of spiced hot summer in a way that feels a little oil and water. - Buveur De Vent Lovely aromatic leather smell. Feels like the romantic idea of leather and cologne if it had a slight (slight) feminine touch. Unsure if I'd wear it but it's a pleasant smell. - Phan-tasma I hate her. Lawn trimmings Beanboozled flavor if it was a scent. Soapy cilantro with a hint of spice. Only one to make me grimace. - Ame Du Coeur Warm, spicy, and surprisingly fruity. Liked it most going on, settled a lot more mild. - Roses Vanille by Mancera (free sample!) Soft sweetness of vanilla and roses, not quite cloying and settles into a really comforting electric warmth. A warm blanket. Gave me chills. I could just keep smelling this and not tire of it. I think. - The Ghost in the Shell Fascinating. Seems to want to fluctuate between being a more masculine cologne-y smell and a more complicated citrus/yuzu-y feminine smell. I like her enough to come back on a second date, see how things go. I want to get to know her better. - Secretions Magnifiques First sniff twisted my eyebrows into an expression of confusion, or maybe even bewilderment. I'm disappointed this one doesn't actually smell all that much like cum, it's a lot more... frightening? Like this is decidedly not cum. I've smelled a lot of cum in my time and it's nothing like any load I've come across. And yet, I can't stop smelling it. It's profoundly horrendous and yet I can't help myself from coming back for more. There's a sort of clean-sour smell to it that I would liken to if plastic could sweat, and not in the clean meat way of a doll's skin. It has a more industrial smell to it. It's like if there was a fruit made of plastic. It is like sweaty adrenaline-filled sex not in actual smell (it lacks the more warmth for something like this imo) but in essence. There's a definite saltiness to it which could potentially land itself more marine depending on the day but to describe it as an ocean or even a particularly gross beach wouldn't be correct, because there is a chemical property to it that makes it more not-of-this-world. The longer I spend with the smell the more that plastic smell turns to more of a salt smell, like sharp adrenal sweat fighting through (and winning handily) against a potentially more 'clean' smell that was laid on at the start of the day, the primal breaking through the barrier of polite pretense. All of which is to say I don't think it's something quite for the faint of heart, and I wonder what it would be like to wear this for a whole day. The smell is still settling on my testing piece of paper, and the more it sits the more I feel it could have that sort of "hasn't washed up after sex" smell if mixed with the scent of the human body. Truly fascinating.
