Photograph taken using a macro setting on my android phone camera this morning whilst pottering in the very soggy garden. A black sock provides the background! Thought about altering the angle so the snowdrop stem is perfectly vertical, but that's just not how nature works! A single white snowdrop bows its head as it bursts out of its cocoon. Bright lime stem is part translucent. Just above the petals rests a raindrop. On closer inspection this morning, there are quite a lot of snowdrops ready to do their thing, lots of buds and some primroses out.

Primrose flowers are amongst the earliest messengers of spring. Their name, Primula, means “little first one”, a nod to their pale golden blooms rising with the new year. Folklore says they must be tended with care, for neglected primroses may draw the displeasure of fairy folk.
