It helps to have someone else look at it. I have done this previously for relatives, parents and in laws so I know how stressful it all is.

Also council tax relief is different if you are of pension age or get pension credit. (You usually get more)

I’ve just done that and made up 3 separate birth dates to see what the outcome is. They shouldn’t be storing details. Have also done it putting in different amounts to see where cut off is.

It should then work it out for someone in your circumstances who is entitled to a pension? I think you need to know what amount of pension you are going to get.

There is normally a benefits department at council offices, but have found helpfulness varied depending on who you spoke to.

Totally agree. The benefits calculator on Age Uk did give suggested figures for what they might pay in rent and council tax if that helps.
I really wish that every politician had to actually navigate a claim for themselves and the uncertainty and stress it causes for people.

They count the transitional protection payment as income for council tax in most councils so you end up paying more. Also, I think every time UC goes up, the transitional payment goes down by same amount, so benefit of it eroded each year. Not clear in paperwork as usual.

I think fuschia are generally non toxic for cats unless they eat a lot - he generally likes to just break off the branches of plants and use them as a toothbrush!
