the Record of Lodoss War OP is so good it makes it absolutely impossible for the series to live up to it. I mean even if the series had been something worth watching.
It's funny what i recall as begining it's life as a LN. Boogiepop i always remember, but Record of Lodoss War is always the one that throws me for a loop.
It is such an instantaniously recognizable snapshot of what an older fantasy series looks like that i always assume it started life as a manga.

Just realizing now that the fantasy character I've seen before who is most similar in concept to Bolaire from Critical Role Campaign 4 is probably Karla from Record of Lodoss War.

IIRC; Record of Lodoss War was originally the transcripts of a D&D game that the creator was playing with some other writers at the time. Considering this would have been around 1986, they were probably using D&D Basic or Expert rules.

I have been looking at a gorgeous pixel art Metroidvania Record of Lodoss war: Deedlit in Wonder labyrinth and it is so well animated and looks like fluid as hell you should check it out.
