We should be making more out of the fact that every car locked and parked in a public space is preventing that space from being used by the public.
Parking fees are NOT an imposition on motorists. They are a fair charge to the motorist for their acquisition of that space for private use.

"If you don't allow parking on the pavement, parked cars will have to block the road!" is just shifting the externalities of the fundamental problem - that there are too many cars - onto pedestrians, and particularly onto disabled pedestrians. If there's not space to pass, there's not space to park.
Unwisely read the comments on an article about banning pavement parking & there's loads of people saying "I never see disabled people being impeded by pavement parking!"

I don't think anyone in a position of power/authority wants to do anything about it - the process is the punishment, the cruelty is the point, and the power is something they revel in.

There are no costs for businesses that will be worth the imposition of regulation if human lives are not part of the equation. They do understand if they kill all of us with pollution and disease and poverty and climate change and lack of health care, businesses will have no customers, don't they?

I’ve said for a while, there are a lot of people (mostly on the right, some marginal types on the left) for whom imposition of their ideology is the only goal that matters, such that measures of how that affects material welfare simply aren’t considered.

Sure they have, that's one of the reasons LEOs and their unions actively fight back against the imposition of new regulations; without a funding adjustment it's a strain on their budgets and diminishes their operating capabilities (that's good).

The obvious critique I have not heard explicitly articulated is that the point of making a self defense argument would be saying “but for” his shooting her, she would have killed him. Clearly, had he not shot her the outcome for HIM would have been just the same - i.e. no threat to his life
