The US not only is not an ICC signatory, but during GWOT, Congress passed a law requiring US DoD to *invade* The Hague if any US official or service member were to be tried there. We have to fix this mess ourselves.

My (non-expert) view as someone who was a child during the post-9/11 era: while the GWOT is in no way excusable, I at least understand the thruline of "a horrific terrorist attack killed thousands of civilians, causing a mass atmosphere of paranoia that led to insane racially charged warmongering"

I'm not cynical out of some inherent pessimism. I've just followed the events that have happened throughout my life and I've also felt the weight of state sanctioned violence, both as a perpetrator in GWOT and as a victim at home.

I think that after Obama failed to conclusively shift us away from permanent GWOT in the public mind and Biden was unable to reassert a durable multilateralism, there's been a sort of public disgust at foreign policy in general from the electorate. It's a problem of, and for, elites.
