So you'll know something:
1. Equids thrive in winter climates in part bec their feet are shovels, good for digging thru snow/ice for grasses/water. (Many modern cattle, w/ tender noses & split hooves, will stand on four inches of snow and starve.)
2. Horse images dominate prehistoric cave walls.

Spiritual companion to Sheath Doodles, here's some HORSE DONGS YEAH. Brainworm here is anthro Equids often being half-dropped when relaxed or similar, and only really being fully retracted when physically active. Experiencing that continual rise and fall, y'know? :3

Akkadian/Sumerians again. This time some "battle carts" pulled by 4 equids. Nice models but requiring a deeper base that I'd normally base chariots types on, 50mm not 40mm but means there is no annoying overhang at the rear.

    Hello blue sky! 🩵
At the start of this year I submitted my dissertation that focussed on equids and the men who cared for them in WW1.
In my research I discovered these photos, a pay book, and lots of spiders stuffed away in my Grandmas cupboard.
The two images were taken in Boulogne, 1917.

You know who’s a charming beast? A chalicothere! The fossil mammals were sloth horses, related to equids, rhinos, and friends, but with claws at the end of their feet instead of hooves. This particular form is Moropus, a chalicothere that wandered North America between 20 and 13 million years ago. 🧪

And this also requires that we look across the ocean to a similar grassland biome to wonder, if bison outcompeted horses, why does the African savannah have ruminants and equids in large numbers?

Hi, this is a femur & appears to me to be bovine, but sadly the pics don't quite do it justice. Equids have a so-called 'third trochanter', a very characteristic muscle attachment spur on the lateral side, below the femoral head. Can't see that here tho that part of the bone's not clearly in view.

Global Seroprevalence of Toxoplasma in Equids
In a groundbreaking global systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers have unveiled the extensive seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii in equids worldwide, shedding new light on a long-underestimated parasitic threat to horses, donkeys, and mules. As equids play critical roles in agriculture, transportation, and recreation across many parts of the world, understanding infectious diseases that compromise their health has never been more essential.

Ain Boucherit is interesting due to the diversity of equids, the relatives of horses, zebras and donkeys. On the left we have the extant genus Equus with E. tabeti, but on the right we have the primitive three-toed equid Hipparion libycum.
