Wargamer for far too long. Late Antiquity, Wars of the Roses, Muslim armies and Chinese mainly. Currently playing a lot of MeG. Also WotR reenactor and LRPer. Blog - https://gamer-at-the-end-of-time.blogspot.com/

Akkadian/Sumerians again. This time "retained archers" - as with the previous "retained" troops these (mostly) have the light blue body wrap to identify them (on no evidence what so ever 🤣).

15/18mm 3d prints from Uppsala Miniatures files, scaled down from 28mm.

And so the painting wheel again turns to Akkadians. 15/18mm 3d printed figures from Uppsala Miniatures files; rescaled from 28mm.
These are for the "retained" spearmen as opposed to the militia. I'm using the blue bands across the body to distinguish the better troops (based on nothing).

Lots of lead still used.
As one cannot ever have enough Sasanids (or Sasanians if you prefer) here is another unit of C6th CE Sasanid cavalry. 18mm Resin Warfare 3d figures printed from rescaled 28mm files.
Although I have a C4th CE Sasanid army I decided I "needed" a later version after finding these figures 🤣

Bits and pieces to allow me to field a MeG mid-republican Roman army with Spanish allies. 15/18mm 3d printed figures from Cromarty Forge files.
Will expand with more Spanish to allow me to field a wholly Spanish army and probably the same for the Romans.

Given how good "The Mongol Storm" was, this one will be a must buy 😁
It gives me great pleasure to share the cover of my new book with you:

"The Crusader Storm: A Global History of the Wars for the Middle East."

Currently scheduled for release in June 2026.
15/18mm Seljuq horse archers 3d printed from BattleCat files - downsized from 28mm. Now about half way through doing these which are replacements for metal figures I sold off earlier this year to upgrade.

After hitting my target of writing a 1000 words a day, I thought I'd take a "break" by reading one of the latest JLA articles on Adrianople.

The "relaxing" aspect didn't last five pages.
Akkadian/Sumerians again. This time some "battle carts" pulled by 4 equids. Nice models but requiring a deeper base that I'd normally base chariots types on, 50mm not 40mm but means there is no annoying overhang at the rear.

15/18mm 3d prints by Uppsala Miniatures rescaled from 28mm.

The Battle of Aughrim (12th July, 1691). The decisive battle of the Williamite War in Ireland. It was fought between the largely Irish Jacobite army loyal to James II and the forces of William III. I’m a guess today at my old friend Danny’s house in Cheltenham. Enemy territory 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
Back to 3d printed figures and back to Akkadian/Sumerians.
15/18mm figures printed from Uppsala Miniatures files; downsized from 28mm originals.
These are for 2 units of axemen, possibly guards - 2 styles of figures to allow for ease of identification and so 1 can be an ally if needed.

A bit retro with this unit as its metal not 3d printed 😀 15mm early C3rd CE Chinese cavalry from Lurkio as sold by Gripping Beast these days.
Very straight forward figures that paint up quicky but look pretty nice IMO. To add to an existing collection to give options.

Bit of a palette cleanser after the recent napoleonics, the final base of cavalry and a mounted hero for my Midgard Arthurian force. Matt varnish and basing to do! Gripping Beast and Warlord figures with the superb LBMS shield transfers and banner. #midgard #spreadthelard
15/18mm 3d printed ancient Spanish from Cromarty Forge files. Likely to be mainly used as Lusitanians but can also work for other Iberians and Celtiberians (with a few liberties maybe).

RIP Dicky Bird - a master of his trade and cricketing icon.
The painting wheel turns once again to Seljuq horse archers.
15/18mm 3d printed figures from BattleCat rescaled from 28mm originals.
An ongoing project to replace metal figures I sold off earlier this year. Some way to go yet but may need them later this year so keeping going.

Still playing our War of the 3 nations campaign. It's the end of 1642 and there is a battle in Ireland. Covenants, besieged by Royalists and their Irish allies, attempt to break out of Belfast to reach a small Parliamentarian force sent to help them.

Finished up another unit of late Roman heavy infantry. All are @footsoreminiatures.bsky.social and have LBMS transfers with some added wear and tear. Only one unit of infantry left to do! #Warmongers #wepaintminis #wargaming #lateroman #miniaturepainting #28mm #tts
Getting a bit more painting time in recently. The result is a mass of ancient Iberian skirmisher types - javelinmen and slingers.
15/18mm 3d printed from Cromarty Forge files.
Straight forward figures that turn out better than I initially think they will when I start painting them.

All set up for some Macedon Vs Carthage action. A full dozen Nellies! To the Strongest rules and 700 lads on the table
Bit busy but got a bit of painting done. A unit of spearmen for my "Thematic" Byzantine army which I field as mid-C9th CE. Metal for a change 😂
15/18mm Irregular Miniatures. Must be said that the moulds are getting a bit tired and there were a number of casting flaws. Came out OK though.

I haven't had so much time for painting over the last week or two, but managed to finish some more Normans yesterday. Lovely figures from Crusader. Mounted knights undercoated and next in the queue!
