Nowhere in the laws of the game does the DOGSO law have the words "last defender" in it, and I have no idea why people have Mandela effected themselves into thinking it does.

And… a red card for DOGSO. It is absolutely remarkable how American ref development has created so many spineless officials at the top level.
Same ref who failed to give the pen to Yeboah when the Austin defender kneed him in the hammy and put him out for a month.

Watched Laborda red back. Don't see that this was a clear and obvious DOGSO to overturn the yellow given on the pitch.
If it had been a red, likewise wouldn't be enough to clearly overturn that to a yellow.
Two and a half minutes to make the review = not clear and obvious.

It's a HUGE VAR call in Vancouver. A red card for Laborda for DOGSO puts Dallas a man up for the last 80 minutes. This has big implications at the top and the bottom of the playoff line.

The exact language on why a yellow, “the offender is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball or a challenge for the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.), the offending player must be sent off.” #VWFC #DOGSO
Because a PK was awarded, so long as the last defender makes a challenge to the ball it’s only a caution.

So...Laborda initially gets a yellow for a tackle on Samuel Sarver. But VAR checks for DOGSO and then Allen Chapman sends Laborda off. He will be suspended for Game 1 of the first round.
