It's the second anniversary of Sea Rocket being released at Montrose Beach. She's the one I feel most attached to (inasmuch as one can become attached remotely, by following @chicagopiping.bsky.social posts). I would love to see Indiana Dunes get their own Piping Plovers someday.

19 F sunset at Indiana Dunes National Park. The tiny glow in the background is the sunset reflecting off Chicago buildings - it lasts maybe 10 minutes on clear days.

Those mounds in the shelf ice are about the size of my Honda Fit. I get why people try to climb them. (It's super dangerous).

This is true. I volunteer/foster for a local humane society, and Facebook private groups are their primary means of communicating and coordinating with a couple hundred volunteers and fosters. This is on top of the visibility it gives the animals on their public page. They'd be screwed without it.
If you can leave facebook, instagram, and threads that's great, but a lot of non-profits and indie creators have no choice but to stay for promotion and fundraising. Just try to remember that when making grand declarations of disgust and condemnation aimed at everyone who keeps using meta. 🧵
