😩 The victims of online abuse won't get any meaningful justice for the harm they've experienced. And the communities who have been most harmed by Big Tech and surveillance capitalism won't benefit. The people hurt by tech will be hurt even more. Infuriating.

😩 State laws in Texas etc that ban "facilitating," "harboring," or "disseminating" information about abortion, gender affirming care, etc will force platforms to censor related content en masse. Right now, those platforms are protected by Section 230(e)(3)

😩 The rich and powerful would rapidly accumulate more power to control the flow of information, and suppress information that's critical of them or harmful to their business interests. Free speech for those who can afford the most expensive lawyers.

😩 Corporate platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube will more heavily censor anything controversial that might get them sued: political content, LGBTQ resources, abortion information, MeToo stories, protest announcements, you name it.

😩 Big Tech companies everyone hates would win. Giants like Meta and Google have armies of lawyers to navigate compliance

😩 Alternative platforms like Bluesky and Mastodon would likely shut down, along with Wikipedia, review sites, how-to resources, small forums, etc

The OTHER camp has been blasting out weird alternate-universe fanfic wherein Itch is an evil cackling corpo with 100s of employees and 100s of millions to splash on lawyers. See: "platforms are not your friend" as thought-terminating cliche. These people are worse than useless!

This is where 60-year-old Edouard Lallemand, a lifelong angler who'd been fishing these waters for decades and knows that he was miles north of the border, was fishing when he was intercepted by a much larger US vessel, rammed, taken to the US side, and jailed.

A Quebec fisherman who was fishing 15 kilometers north of the US border was essentially kidnapped by US Border Patrol, who capsized his boat and dragged him to an American prison cell.

In any normal time this'd be quite the international incident, y'know?

DID YOU KNOW? Canada is in fact a separate country from the United States, with its own sovereign government, currency and customs.
