It really pays to remind ourselves frequently that this whole immigration "crisis" is made up out of whole cloth. There was no emergency,danger or problem, only a demagogue stirring up racist grievances for political advantage.

Immigration is a fake problem. We have politicians on the one hand who want to use immigrants as scapegoats for our real ones and politicians on the other who are too cowardly to stand against them and tell the truth. That is the entire situation. Until that changes, people will continue to die.

RIP Joe Ely. As a fan of the Clash back in the late seventies I kept hearing about a Texas musician they adored. I'm not sure whether you'd call it rock or country or roots or Americana, but for over 40 years Joe Ely made some of the best American music out there.
