ICE has started assassinating US citizens since then, does that change anything?
Asked if he's willing to shut down the government over ICE funding, Senator Cory Booker replies: "We had the longest government shutdown, and Democrats could not hold together to sustain that kind of pressure."

I dunno, maybe it would have been better to recast the character and deal with a few weeks of embarrassment rather than tear up the plan and hope people like incoherent nostalgic slop? www.theringer.com/2026/01/14/m...

This exact same logic supports a blanket refusal to fund the executive branch, period. And SCOTUS, while we’re here.
Murphy: The United States Congress should not fund a Department of Homeland Security that is not obeying the laws of the United States of America

Not one more dime for Trump, period, imo, but this is a good baseline position.

There sure do seem to be a lot of deplorable people in America. Some politician should unapologetically acknowledge that reality.

Imagine joining the National Guard so you can protect your family from ICE, then getting called up to help ICE deport other people's families. Then the Trump administration cancels the Parole in Place program and uses its records to hunt down and deport your family. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/12/u...

I guess the New York Times is just never going to straightforwardly say things like "Kristi Noem lied" or "this is a blatant violation of the Constitutional right to freedom of expression" or "the administration is a blood-thirsty fascist death cult". www.nytimes.com/2026/01/12/u...

If your middle-schooler tried to pull something like this you would sit them down and explain the concept of "not acting like a pathetic little baby".
President Donald Trump said he will meet with Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado next week — and that he would accept the award she has said she wants to share with him.
Trump says he will meet Machado — and would accept Nobel Peace Prize from her
Speaking to Fox News, Trump said it “would be a great honor” if the Venezuelan opposition leader decided to share her Nobel Peace Prize with him.

I'm pretty sure it's the first one, and our best hope is that (as with so many things) they are wrong about that.
Many are arguing that they wouldn't be acting this way if they thought they were subject to free & fair elections.

Plausible. But another explanation is that they see the writing on the wall--generational backlash--and they're attempting increasingly desparate hail marys

Seems pretty clear that the ICE agents didn’t want to be embarrassed in a meme getting their car stuck in the snow so they murdered someone.

Like so many GOP policies, this one may create the exact situation it is pretending to address.
it is the policy of this government to treat democratic-led states as conquered territories and the people therein as something like hostiles or even enemy combatants

I like the sentiment, but Democrats should not vote for anything that empowers (or funds) this administration to do anything. They don’t spend the money allocated for the things Dems demand, and they blatantly misuse allocated funds for whatever Stephen Miller wants to do anyway.
Democrats cannot vote for a DHS budget that doesn’t restrain the growing lawlessness of this agency.
A witness shared this video with me showing an ICE officer shooting a driver in an SUV in south Minneapolis. DHS says the woman is dead.

Stephen Miller is generating some truly demented AI videos for the mad king.
