i see a lot of concert postings and can't help but notice we're moving back away from diverse programming. it'd be great to not pat ourselves on the back too quickly and avoid going back to business as usual.

We need to shut down ICE and arrest the people involved.
He said that the agents would throw food at them to eat. The agents threatened to withhold food for a week and to beat him up if he didn't sign deportation papers. He said he saw others refuse and get beaten/receive no food. He signed because he was afraid.

there's a connected thought here i've been mulling over for a few years. it feels like we're not allowed to grow up? like own a house, have a steady job, etc. we're just been fed the same material from the 80s, and there's this sense of being an eternal child
The people I actually know, in real life, who listen to Joe Rogan and Tucker Carlson are 45 and think they're 22, which explains a lot of things.

There is no magically going back to normal. What existed before also was rotten. We have to fix it ourselves.
It's odd for me to realize that my first-year undergraduates are at an age where they don't really remember that there was a form of US politics prior to Donald Trump. For them, Trump is not an aberration from the normal course of political discourse, but just how US politics is done.
