Too conservative for bluesky and too pragmatic for X. Appreciate humor on both sides. Sic em Bears.
How much is it fair for you to pay? I am self employed and pay a lot more than that, you are not retiring on aca but you are certainly benefiting greatly.
Okay so I have expanded ACA subsidies for 2025. I STILL pay $699.00 a month in premiums with a $5,000 individual deductible and a $10,000 family max out-of-pocket. That's all on me, and that means I'm not "retiring on ACA." I own a business, and expanded ACA lets me buy insurance, period. 1/2

Australia is officially banning children under 16 from social media, or is it? The kids seem to have another idea
Australia’s Social Media Ban Won’t Save Kids
It’s officially D-Day in Australia. That’s deactivation day, when Canberra will boot hundreds of thousands of children under the age of 16 off social media.

Australians banning guns was horrible, Australians banning social media for kids 16 and under; genius.

All the stuff they accused the Bidens of doing but 10x more. But I guess it's ok.
Turns out the waste fraud and abuse was coming from inside the Trump family
This is a million times worse than anything Hunter Biden was accused of doing in even the most fevered right-wing conspiracy dream

Mail delivery should be one day a week in rural settings and at best m,w,f, elsewhere. Pols, especially dems, love this jobs program so it likely won’t happen. Ironically lots of schools going to 4 day school weeks to save money but we cannot shorten the days we get delivered our mostly junk mail.
The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

Another huge issue, and I don't think people even know this is a thing, is that just about everything is done with smart phones now. And many (most?) seniors literally cannot work their phones. Signing things, texting, dealing with spam and fraud or even using the basic functions? They're often lost

Every son and daughter has to take care of this stuff or else face their elders getting scammed or simply being unable to do the basics. This always falls on their kids, if they have them. I have so many gen x stories of this.

I agree 100 with his sentiment but his “shipwrecked sailors” description was a bit over the top.
Himes: "What I saw in that room was one of the most troubling things I've seen in my time in public service ... any American who sees the video that I saw will see the US military attacking shipwrecked sailors."

“What should we do then?” the crowd asked.

John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.”

Agreed
His story is absurd. My question is how were two guys clinging to wreckage in the middle of the ocean supposed to call their friends? Just whip out their cell phones like they were poolside at MaraLago?

Actually new data in Florida since cell phone ban shows a huge increase in test scores. This decision is so easy its funny anyone opposes. The argument kids need it for safety at school is ludicrous.

The bottom 90% lost a collective $79 trillion in wages over the past 50 years.

Why? Because the top 1% ate up an increasingly larger share of the national income — so that $79 trillion flowed to them instead of the working class.

The greatest trick of all is trickle-down economics.

I oppose shooting these boats and people. But “small motor boat”. Lol. And though, still not justified, they are drug boats.
(The Guardian) Yup, not a surprise at all. Trump et al has killed four more men in a small motor boat in the Caribbean. When will this stop? What will bring it to a head? The Supremes won't help. But maybe the GOP might eventually find their spines & cojones.

Yes income inequality is a problem. This stat alone doesn’t mean alot. Need to know hrs worked etc… plus many game the system and don’t get married to keep incomes down for govt $. Aca, wic, food stamps. Quick rough math at 45 hour workweek an 17 bucks an hr is 45k with a week off. Married cpl at 90k
Walmart and McDonald’s are among the top employers of workers who rely on food stamps.

McDonald's CEO raked in $18.2M last year — over 1,000x the company's median employee pay.

Walmart's CEO pocketed $27.4M — 930x the company's median employee pay.

See the problem?

Remember when everyone said expand the college playoff numbers to be more fair and eliminate the arguments and complaints. It was stupid then and stupid now and the complaints will never end. And the bowl season and the excitement of making a bowl, any bowl, is lost forever.
