Far too many talented artists here. Time to redress the balance. This is called A Woman Surprised By A Wasp.

We went to see the stage production of Totoro today and we all cried. More than ever, we just needed to see people doing something lovely. Soul cleansing.

I had no idea that just kidnapping the head of state of another country if they're a criminal and whisking them over to stand trial for their crimes was an option, but since it clearly is, we should crack on because there's LOADS.

Chris Rea, there, going onto the list of people who I didn't realise were utterly lovely until I read their obituaries.

This just triggered a memory of a colleague walking into my office to ask the burning question; Emily, I keep hearing people talking about it but what IS a Gaddafi?
It's not a retail story, but the dumbest question I was asked at work - indeed, possibly ever... - was when a former line manager, mid-passionate discussion with colleagues, said, 'George is smart, let's ask George. Is it the Earth that goes round the sun, or the sun that goes round the Earth?'

It does rather seem that people with politically or socially left wing views (Lineker, Ince) are not allowed to express them publicly, whereas those with right wing views (Neil, Davies) are. So at the very least, the BBC is inconsistent, which is problematic.

No Robin = no Monkey Cage.
Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

Re-reading Lord of the Rings at the moment, and I'd forgotten how relentlessly Gandalf drags Hobbits.

"Of course, The Enemy has overlooked one thing: dipshits such as yourself, Frodo. Buffoons with fat feet and shithole burrows. Yes, perhaps your painful loser energy may surprise Sauron yet!"

"Yes, and Christmas pud."

Elon Musk spending billions of dollars to buy a social network to replicate what it's like to have friends who like you, and an AI to replicate what it's like to have a supportive father who praises you, only to have both consistently turn on him is Promethean torture if Prometheus had deserved it.

I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

See how you get on, like.
