Counterintuitive: the DFL is run by people who have no idea what it's like to live in an urban area.

Right now the other 9 council members are thinking, "oh we're the assholes? And you guys are the ones to end the era of bad feelings? Good luck, newbies."

Elizabeth Shaffer is from the old school that says: don't attempt to address the problem, let it be as dangerous as possible, eventually they'll learn.
also i told jamal osman on election night that elizabeth shaffer had won and he told me a story about asking for safe needle disposal in a park and shaffer saying no because it will "encourage drug use." he was just like "it'll encourage kids not stepping on needles!"

In the case of Vetaw v Palmisano v Jazz, I will lay down my life for Jazz harder than Mike Norton did this year.
If anyone thinks he’s not running for mayor in 2029 they aren’t paying attention. But honestly, if Vetaw & Palmisano are in the mayor bumper cars then, our pragmatic asses better hope Jazz is in there somewhere.

Data shows that if team Frey had really wanted to hurt Chughtai they needed to endorse Chughtai.
Here's another view of the final-round 2025 Minneapolis mayor vote by ward. I've sorted from the ward with the largest absolute margin to the smallest. The ones in parentheses favored Fateh, those without parentheses favored Frey.

2025 didn't just have the highest number of voters, it had the lowest percentage of down-ballot apathy in the race for Board of Estimate & Taxation in at least the last three mayoral elections. Undervote rate (people leaving this race blank) went down from 34% to 27%.

The Metro Transit B Line recently celebrated its one millionth ride. The new bus is almost living up to the "rapid transit" hype, if you ignore the surly guy heckling people he thinks are taking their sweet ass time boarding. That wasn't supposed to be one of the features.

Ward 4 gave us decades of Barb Johnson. It's almost like asking why Ward 13 does what it does. Ward 5 also tough — needed more resources and attention this year. Progressives were fortunate to have Ellison and Cunningham take these seats in 2017.
Someone explain why Ward 4 & 5 reject Fateh
This wasn't a vanity project for Omar the way it is for Frey. Frey's approach to governing is self-serving and hostile to anyone who doesn’t have power. That was the main difference in this election: who each side was fighting for. And again, big money and entrenched power won.

This population decline is a long term project by people with time machines (similar to the plot of "the Terminator") to use the power of exclusionary zoning (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) to drain Ward 7 of Cashman voters.
One thing I didn't know about until recently is Kenwood's long-term decline. They lost almost 50% of their population between 1980 and 2020. Sounds like they need more housing!

I know of at least one person at a polling place who needed to be reassured that it wouldn't wreck their life: "Every time I vote they call me for jury duty."
do we know how many of those who did not register to vote did not do so because they are ineligible, vs. just not being interested in voting?
