The Post (me and @kcrowebasspro.bsky.social) analyzed the social media posts and appearances of prominent politicians across the country.

We found that no one is talking about climate change anymore. In 2025, mentions are 60% lower than in 2024.

There are so many hyperlocal AI slop journalism sites popping up in news deserts and there are few, if any, local media reporters helping people make sense of them.

Y’all…it’s really very important to make sure you don’t believe that the humans you don’t like, or don’t know, deserve fewer human rights. I know you THINK you don’t believe that, but I’d check in and make sure. Sometimes, we surprise ourselves.

America’s wealthiest businessmen and financiers spend their time and the historically insane amounts of money they’ve marshaled into the project of “AI” to play paper dolls with the lives and images of real women to fluff their lurid imaginations, and this is indicative of the entire point of AI.

Woke: A library is artificially intelligent
So, thanks for pointing at a problem here that Blade Runner and Westworld already identified, but an opinion piece this is not.

Oh, and btw, interpolatable archives are as conscious as the brick wall in your local library.

And the point of the disinformation, conspiracism, and participatory make-believe media ecosystem is to provide people who want to make sense of the world through a prism of gutter racism with a sufficiently high-verisimilitude reality show they can plug into to believe in instead of the real thing

I saw people speculating about whether this is Trump falling for disinfo or having a senior moment, and my opinion is it's more participatory make-believe: acting as-if something is real because it tickles the desires, with no further thoughts about veracity one way or the other.
With a “WOW!,” President Trump posts a claim about DOGE and “royalties linked to Obamacare” that originated on a satirical website. That site’s own About section reads: “Everything on this website is fiction… If you believe that it is real, you should have your head examined.”

At a basic level, our society did not evolve to account for an entire layer of elite society just lying, continuously and without consequence, and making lying into a core skill set. It really is that dire — civilizations collapse because of alienated, delusional elites.
Damn, I hate it when things that happen mean nothing :-(

Many people are saying (that America has become dominated by New Thought as the new national epistemology, and this prefigures everything from the rise of fascism to the social-economics of the AI industry)
Someone on here (was it you @vaporlight.bsky.social?) said something along the lines of "all fascism is THE SECRET" and yeah, basically!
"they want to build a flat earth" is the gut punch line to dan olson's vid essay on flat earthers tracing the evolutionary logic from casual conspiracism to fascism

theyre playing a totalizing game of mass make-believe that they must dragoon all of society into to make "real" in a postmodern sense

Altman has been quite clear about his strategy.

From the 2008 crash he learned that if you bind enough of the economy to your business you can do whatever you like; government will decide the rules no longer apply.

What he's selling is unaccountabilty.
I honestly don’t get the value of this company. They hoover up energy and water. Their product constantly gets things wrong and, in extreme cases, coaches people into suicide.

And it’s all built on what seems to be malicious and vast intellectual property theft.

What does OpenAI offer the world?
