This is simply untenable. There is no way forward with media and political classes captured by the right. Every time someone commits a crime you have to pray it's not an undesirable or it's purge time, then when it turns out to be themselves again they just shrug and wait for the next one.

In the 2010s, this country's elites were thrown onto social platforms with everyone else and could finally read what we all think about them and it caused them so much psychic damage that they decided to destroy both the internet and democracy to make sure nothing like it ever happened again.

Feels like just in my lifetime the tech industry went from solving problems to pretending to solve problems, to creating problems

But ultimately the blame lies with the Democratic Party leaders and the party consultants who lost an election against an authoritarian dipshit in spite of receiving millions in donations. The “they are weird” slogan energized people; the shift right on the border and promising Biden 2.0 did not

This is 100% why the "weird" attack line was so powerful: all these right-wing weirdos want is to be considered the default.

They were really onto something with the "weird" thing. Then the Democratic consultants convinced them it wasn't serious enough.

Blame every single thing on them, highlight every failure however tenuous, and relentlessly point out what weird-ass humans they are.

remember when they actually struck gold when they called republicans weird and republicans were actually freaking out about it, and the message was actually working but then the Democratic Consultants got upset and told them to stop calling republicans weird, so they stopped and never did it again?

Which is part of why Tim Walz was so refreshing. He was the first person since 1980 to appear on either the top or bottom of a Democratic ticket who wasn't a lawyer.

Until the lawyer-brained consultants gagged him because they thought "weird" wasn't SrsPolitics™.

Remember that brief moment where the democratic message on this was “these guys are weird” and the voters loved it and then the consultants made them stop

Maybe I'm a fool, but I honestly do think that this tactic can be defeated. But not the way the Democratic Party has been doing it.
