A powerful post worth reading all the way through.

“It was AIDS that killed those men, but it was homophobia that allowed it to happen – & that led to so many men dying alone.
Homophobia killed us then.
Worldwide, it remains the cause of thousands of deaths, through violence & neglect, even today."
A 🧵 on #AIDS in the 80s/90s:
I was 15 when I first had sex with a man.
I’d snuck off to London’s Heaven nightclub with the express intent of ridding myself of my ‘gay virginity’, a goal I achieved easily with a visiting American photographer.

Being a writer is like surfing. Always hoping to catch the perfect wave, but most of your time will be spent paddling against the tide or just floating, waiting, eyes on the horizon while you watch other people riding their highs into the sunset. But you have to love the work more than the ride.

So, if you're in a similar boat:
* you are not alone
* publishing is harder than it used to be
* people are only showing their highlight reels; you don't see all their disappointments
* fomo is baked into the internet
* art will save you when nothing else will
* WRITING IS REBELLION

Art is an act of hope. Writing is an act of rebellion. The world will always need more stories--from real human beings, not bullshit plagiarism machines. Every book is a love story from the author, and every reader is fighting the war against cruelty, ignorance, and hopelessness. We are fighting.

This woman’s endless struggle just breaks my heart! Nickels & dimes every month to survive… Could 10 people just throw $5 at her right now, please?
In the USA, there is no mercy for longterm illnesses. Fundraising for yourself is an endless slog, as your monthly needs are high, and there's no golden goal to achieve ahead.
If you can throw a few bucks Rachel's way, it will help.

Remember your favorite creator possibly might be struggling with imposter syndrome and doubt and this timeline sucks.. so if you find yourself thinking “wow I really relate to this persons work” or that persons work gives you joy, you should probably tell them. It’s a hard time to be a creative.

A few things have been buzzing around in my brain lately about how we become writers / creators / story professionals of any kind. So much seems to be down to a matrix of connections - not only professionally but creatively.

Since February, according to my latest analysis, almost 600,000 Black women have been economically sidelined. The November 20, 2025, Jobs Report makes clear this isn’t a blip. It’s a structural crisis. That is not a recovery. It is a redistribution of opportunity.
