In honor of spooky month, share a 4 word horror story that only someone in your profession would understand

I'll go first: Six page commercial lease.

My hot take is that none of these are structure. These are all recipes that describe structure.

Structure is the Salt, Fat, Acid Heat of writing.

3-Act/Hero's Journey etc are recipes.

You can make great meals without using a recipe if you understand the principles of structure.

So #WritingCommunity how do we feel about structure?

Do you use the 3 act structure? The 5 act?

Hero's Journey? Save the Cat? Super Structure Method? Story Genius Method?

Something else?

What have you got?

My big idea for selling more books is a scholastic-style book fair but for office blocks and workplaces. Send round the catalogue in advance. Visit a few weeks later and set up ready for folks' lunch break. Of course, I have no idea what the cost of all this would be, but it would be rad as hell.

I've been in enough marketing brainstorms to spot an experiential stunt when I see one. This is designed to grab headlines on the gamble that the raised awareness will net a few more sales. I'd be interested to see the ROI numbers on this one.

It is a very tense watch. Inventive and full of lovely shots of a very good boy. Worth a watch just to see a horror film shot at a dog's eye level.

It took me waaaaay too long to find the term "chimney breast" today. I remember the days when I could have googled, "What's the sticky-out bit above a fireplace called?" and the correct answer would have been on the first page of results.

If you like dark folklore you must check out @samkhorton.bsky.social's Gorse and its sequel Ragwort, which is out today!

Gorgeous inside and out, it's a haunting tale of love, madness, loss, and mysterious secrets, set in Cornwall amid the clash of Enlightenment with the old magical ways

Edits update: I *think* I've finished adding new stuff to the book. Now we're into the crunchy in-the-text edits. I already did a quick pass working on all the "easy" suggestions to help me get back into the story. Now I'm tackling all the trickier ones. In short, progress is good.
