Local law enforcement leaders in Minneapolis and St. Paul are raising concerns about Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents violating U.S. citizens’ civil rights, including those of off-duty police officers, as ICE has surged into Minnesota in recent weeks. Mark Bruley, police chief of the Minneapolis suburb Brooklyn Park, said at a Tuesday news conference that an off-duty police officer had been “boxed … in” by vehicles driven by ICE agents, who demanded with guns drawn to see paperwork proving the officer had a right to be in the United States. “She’s a U.S. citizen, and clearly would not have any paperwork,” he said. The officer attempted to begin filming the interaction and her phone was knocked out of her hand, Bruley said. When she identified herself as a police officer, the federal agents “immediately left,” he said.

Eight additional federal prosecutors are in the process of leaving the Minnesota U.S. Attorney's Office, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation. The departures follow the mass exit of six veteran prosecutors who left the office last month in protest of recent directives from the U.S. Department of Justice, including the department's refusal to initiate a civil rights investigation into the killing of Renee Good. Among those leaving is Ana Voss, the civil division chief, who has been helping to handle hundreds of wrongful detention petitions flooding the office since federal officers began their immigration crackdown in Minnesota.

Epstein believed that he was ushering in some kind of political revolution in the late 2010s, supporting far-right candidates across Europe. But it's clear from reading his emails that he was learning how to fit into that world as it was being created.
