Gardening for wildlife in Devon. Sharing my untidy oasis with hedgehogs, newts, snakes, birds and lots of things I can't name yet. And two Airedales.
Can’t think of another hobby that costs the public millions. Plundering our heritage for personal gain, destroying crucial context and if not sold abroad, lost to us in the back of someone’s drawer. The system needs urgent overhaul.

Since #bbclaurak is trending, let’s remind ourselves that ONE MONTH ago, the BBC invited Mandelson on for a soft-ball interview on her show. While HIS CLIENT , Palantir’s Louis Moseley appeared as a pundit

Both, as I wrote at time, were ‘abject failures of journalism’

The latest piece of atrocious writing on the BBC website.

Yet another example of how we are all having to pay to see our shared heritage.

Just look at the outrageous financial figures and ask where its coming from!
Most expensive treasure find ever - cost us all £4.3 million last year & now an extra £1 million to display it.

Dug without archaeological supervision & taken to the British Museum in a washing up bowl:

Just had an instant flashback to my childhood. Treacle tart with Carnation. Infinitely better than tinned peaches with Carnation. Or, god help us, sago pudding (with Carnation).
in england they have treacle tart which just bypasses the whole nuts on it situation
I think Pecan Pie is one of those things that is divisive now because it’s just a blob of sugar with nuts on it but to someone 150 years ago who ate shoes it was probably like having 12 orgasms at once

Seems we're unwilling to return treasure looted from other countries during the Empire days, but happy to sell off our own cultural heritage to the highest bidder.

It blows my mind that there are real people who see a post like this and actually believe the whole “Christmas is being cancelled by Muslims” BS 🙄

Let’s have a quick look at what’s happening to Sheffield so you can put your Express reading uncle’s mind at ease!😆

“[…] so to put the Treasure reward figures in context: we are looking at around 150-250 museum curators who could have been salaried for the amount paid out in 2023. Instead, this ‘reward’ money was paid out to individual finders and landowners as cash gifts for their hobby.“

I’m really starting to suspect that most of the tech bros haven’t actually read Tolkien, as they certainly don’t understand it.

The gentle hobbits save the “hard men” of Gondor, largely through compassion and selflessness. Not the other way around. The Christian parable is barely hidden!

9 yr old me sat in a willow leaning against the trunk - and heard a heartbeat. Ran all the way home terrified that I’d be pursued by a big old tree 😂
When windy place your best ear to the bark of an oak tree, and with a hand stop all noise entering the other ear

When you get used to the embarrassment from the looks of passers by, you can concentrate on listening THROUGH the tree to the trunk & branches working with the wind

So water companies polluting rivers and seas is fine, but chucking leftover coffee down the drain is where the council draws the line?

This is madness
