Only because he's an unrelenting dumbass who doesn't understand that was required under Ukraine's constitution. We have no legal mechanism for that here, and it's an excellent way to get states to secede over it since they control their own elections.

It didn't surprise most of us, and we couldn't think any lower, it did cause some of his right wing allies to publicly criticize him for it. He lost something by posting that in their eyes, and I think it's going to be a cumulative effect of things like that, that are eroding his base.
