Giving 404 and other great outlets my money so they can tell the truth about our world is such a comfort in these uncertain times.
Today is the two year anniversary of 404 Media, which is hard to fathom. We wrote about how it's going, what we've done, what we're going to do, and what we've learned. We cannot do this without the support of our subscribers and for that we are endlessly thankful:

404 Media at Two Years: How We've Grown, and What's Next
We're reflecting on the impact our journalism had in year two, how we've grown with your support, and what we aspire to accomplish in year three.

🚴‍♀️ Great lunch with Arcadis colleague Eric @tunell.bsky.social in Mar Vista today. We talked about his passion for universal design and active transportation, informed by his mom’s visual impairment. We’re excited about teaming up to help cities on these topics up and down the West Coast

Speaking of elves, the Seer and the Unseen is a good documentary about their influence on our contemporary world.
if you haven't learned a fun fact today you can borrow the one i learned: seymour cray, designer of cray supercomputers, attributed his success and groundbreaking ideas to "the elves (who) will often come to me with solutions to my problem" while digging in the tunnel he made under his house

Wonder if this explains the single HBE I saw just after security at PDX a couple weeks ago. What is this packaging like??

most people want a quick and simple answer to why AI systems encode/exacerbate societal and historical bias/injustice and due to the reductive but common thinking of "bias in, bias out," the obvious culprit often is training data but this is not entirely true

I mean I love the DMV as much as the next guy but I think this copy might be over-promising just a smidge.

Left all earthly attachments behind and achieved nirvana today (closed all the open tabs in my phone’s web browser that I told myself I’d “read later”)

We’re winning hearts and minds left and right!
An 84 win Diamondbacks team with a negative run differential winning the world series would be the fate 2023 MLB so richly deserves. Stupidest possible outcome

this is why if you have a costco membership you should be constantly asking your friends if they want to make a costco run
I've seen a few articles recently that talk about how just being in the same space with people you like, doing a menial task or running an errand with them, is really a big part of forging/maintaining friendships. I feel like we lose track of that as we age (I know I have, at least).
