If you begin Star Trek: Voyager episode Spirit Folk at exactly 11:49:35 on New Year's Eve, Ensign Harry Kim will kiss a cow as the clock strikes midnight. Join in a very dumb annual tradition and start 2026 off on the right hoof.

most unlikely, favorite discovery of 2025? danny brown (who i saw & didn't love on his first big tour with purity ring in 2012) cut an LP with a shitload of trans folk that got me to underscores—whose wallsocket is one of the best records i've ever heard.🧵

I've always wanted to get a picture of the sun setting directly above a sanderling

I could never land it

It's a complex shot since the sun sets above the ocean and the birds are BELOW the crashing waves

Even if you get it, you need to get multiple shots for depth of field

I came close tonight🪶 🧵

Been chasing the high of Freelancer for decades at this point, and this looks really cool!
And if you want something even MORE Freelancery, Underspace is lower-budget but much more creative. Still Early Access.

The closest thing to humans are a species with 120 sexes. The economy is run by psychic lobsters. A galactic invasion was foiled by a god-tier public speaker. HUGE boss fights.

The spiritual successor to Freelancer with a Lovecraftian, sandbox RPG twist. Explore a vast handmade universe with Day 1 mod support and a planned PvP/co-op multiplayer on the Early Access roadmap. Y...

i'm pretty ignorant on this, but the epstein files being released by an administration clearly implicated in them after weeks or months of redactions seems... is that even anything? Is this not just like the cops investigating themselves and saying "nah, we good?"

Taking a break from the list with a real sicko's pick - Bladestorm: Nightmare. One of Koei's wierdest games. A regiment-level action-strategy game (think Dynasty Warriors but you control 30 guys at once) set in a gloriously mangled version of the Hundred Years War.

Usually overpriced. $15 for now.

I'm a sicko for raytraced and pathtraced lighting but man the way these technologies were rolled out and the overwhelmingly negative reactions to the current state of performance, pricing and hardware access is an all-around historical bungle

been enjoying Pluribus, but this week's episode especially. I saw criticism that this show "takes an hour to serve 10 mins of plot" and personally, I'm enjoying that slow pace and low key style. We hang out with Carol and Manousos for a lot of downtempo quiet moments. I love it!
