1 or 2 pencils is sending me. They're consumable. You use them up. Oliver Twist ass kid writing so lightly you can barely read it to save the graphite, to make his 1-2 pencils last through 12th grade.
Trump: "You can give up certain products. You could give up pencils. Because under the China policy, every child can get 37 pencils. They only need 1 or 2. They don't need that many. You always need steel. You don't need 37 dolls for your daughter. 2 or 3 is nice. So we're doing things right."

We have built endless machines to stimulate us at all times and evoke a neverending torrent of strong feelings, and nothing is so stimulating, so evocative, as cheap nostalgia paired with the assurance that you’re right to feel everything good has been taken from you, you’ve been wronged by history
this is why i prefer the term "the malaise." there is *demonstrably* a malaise. nobody likes The Current Thing™️. but *what* they're mad about? or more precisely, what *caused* them to be mad? that is a much harder question, and one it does not do to presuppose

Among other things, it's weird for the DOJ to say they are "adovcating on behalf of their client" (singular). IDK maybe it's a DOJ thing intended to mean the public/gov't. I worked at an agency and we never really used the language "client" as it's an odd fit for a gov't lawyer.

The way to understand the second Trump administration is as a content generation machine. They aren’t implementing fascism, they’re creating fascism-flavored content. They aren’t implementing real policy, they’re signing executive orders to post about them. Anything that gets attention is the goal.
I don't really know what the administration hopes to gain by picking fights with the most well-liked pop artists in the United States. You're just generating backlash for no discernible reason outside of owning the libs.
Sabrina Carpenter ratioed the White House after it used her song in an ICE video.

The WH deleted the post…but now it’s back with a new ICE video, this time using an altered clip from Carpenter’s SNL monologue.

but I think WB-Netflix is as bad as any other lurch in this direction and I think if you have the resources — and even if you think you don't — you should find ways to get people together on a regular basis. movie screenings. poker nights. chess club. even a standing bar night.

Unsurprisingly, tbone makes the point I was trying to make but more clearly and empathetically
i started a public movie club because i believe the only way anything good happens is if more people hang out with each other. Movie theaters are a much bigger version of that, even more than shows are — you are forced into parallel experience with a bunch of other people.

Here is a fun stat about "Blue Cities" to put things in context for the innumerate: there are more Trump voters in King County, Washington than in the entire state of Wyoming
Monica Crowley claims Trump is "talking to FIFA" about potentially moving the World Cup out of "blue cities," but no decisions have been made

This entire administration behaves like their job is that of a successful influencer celebrity in one of those group houses in LA. 1/ Be famous, 2/ Do Epic Posts, 3/ Enjoy the celebrity service treatment and treat the FBI and Secret Service like they're your personal staff.

And this was a real schlep--almost 30 minutes by car. Bafflingly none of the Seattle area theaters are running it. Get thee to the Landmark Crest Cinema in Shoreline (which kicks ass for multiple reasons)!!
Saw Wake Up Dead Man in theaters (****), and it was a truly delightful experience which helped solidify a cranky and likely cancellable take of mine: you should have to go outside your house to do more things.

Trump just pardoned someone that the DOJ convicted of bid rigging. In July. July 2025. The case was prosecuted by the Trump administration. You can just do crimes now. www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...

Kavanaugh Stop
Agents in Key Largo, Florida ripped this woman wearing medical scrubs out of her car as she screamed she is a US citizen. Agents cuffed her and put her in one of their cars.

She was eventually let go, per David Goodhue of the Miami Herald, who also took this footage:

Trump Always Chickens Out which is why it's deeply jokerfying that so few established Dems are willing to say anything about his substantive crimes. Trump admin actually recognizes that what they're doing is crimes and they don't want to be accused of doing crimes!
Reporter: If there were a second strike that killed wounded people, would that be legal?

Trump: I don’t know that happened and Pete said he did not even know what people were talking about. I wouldn’t have wanted a second strike. The first strike was very lethal. It was fine.

It's extremely bad that an avatar of the Pestilence God is in charge of national health policy and I'm never gonna get over it
This is essentially Vinay Prasad, who has an MD, declaring his intent to use the government to torture children to dead via preventable disease by knowingly withholding the cure.

To call this despicable is an understatement.
Vinay Prasad of the FDA claims that he has proof that 10 children died from COVID19 vaccines, so the FDA will now target flu shots, look at whether people should receive multiple vaccines at the same time, and make the vaccine approval process significantly more difficult.

There is no economy good button, only an economy bad button, and Trump is pressing it
Still incredible how "the economy" was the top priority for voters in 2024 and so they voted in someone who in January 2025 started doing what he said he'd do and they immediately recognized that was terrible for the economy and their personal finances. 🤷‍♂️

There is no "economy good" button that an administration can press but there are many "economy bad" buttons and both Trump admins love to press them. Bush did a few too.
Every Republican president of my lifetime has destroyed the global economy and it doesn’t matter at all electorally
the enduring wishcasting power of "republicans are good at the economy" is truly something to behold
