My father made his annual visit a bit before the big day (his photo from today). We all tried to convince him to threaten Phil into ignoring his shadow even if he sees it, because this winter sucks and we want it over.

IMG: Photo of a little parrot baby sitting on a log. Its tail and outer wing feathers are verdantly green but still stubby, and the rest of it is all pinfeathers and gray fluff.
Prepare yourselves to be bombarded with superb parrot content this coming week 😍🪶🪶

Hello everyone! I'm looking for job leads or potential PhD positions in Vancouver, BC or Halifax, NS. Every day I get an email from the Mountain Goats about tour dates and every day they avoid my state entirely. I imagine I must have slighted someone, somehow.

I love Letters to a Pre-Scientist week! This round, my pre-scientist pen pal (whose stem interest was "not at all") asked me about cool lizards. I doubt they've ever seen this buff worm! (Mexican worm lizard, Bipes biporus)

Picture an animal that huddles up with others when stressed, babysits its young, hangs out around relatives, and gathers in big groups every year.

Did you imagine a rattlesnake?

My latest, for National Geographic!
Caught on the RattleCam: a most unexpected snake behavior
For a long time, scientists didn’t think snakes needed each other. New research proves that wrong.

My thesis has been available online for a little bit and I've been debating posting it here. I've been focused on turning it into publications, but that's been slow going (the scope of the first publication has been steadily creeping up)...Maybe I'll post a link?
