This is pretty striking.
Pete Hegseth says he’s going to court-martial me for saying the same exact thing he said 9 years ago. What changed for Pete? Well to start, he spends all day thinking about how he can suck up to Trump. When Trump says jump, he says how high.

I’ll keep banging on about this. Musk destroyed US Aid’s work saving black and brown poor people from deadly diseases all over the world leading to maybe hundreds of thousands of deaths already. In statements like this, he keeps displaying his motive for this crime.
it should probably be a bigger story that the richest man on earth and leading Republican is a fucking Nazi

media needs to stop beating around the bush. this is Nazi shit.

We live in a time when some of the most powerful people on Earth are behaving in ways that wouldn’t be accepted among 10 year olds — and now require push back by the publishers of kindergarten books.

I take this as a somewhat (sort of, maybe) good sign: as presidents lose power on the Hill they usually retreat to foreign policy. Like that, but, instead, as Trump loses domineering control of the Republican Party, he retreats to social media madness. It’s a safe space where he feels powerful.
1. President Trump has posted hundreds of times in the last two hours.

Here is a screen recording of the posts.

Given that the video is nearly five minutes, I have to split it.

Video 1 here:

Forget the corruption allegations and scale of the asymmetry for a moment. Just a sentence that begins with the claim “Donald Trump had reasonable concerns…” is a black mark on the judgement of any writer. The man is incapable of reasonable concerns on any matter of public interest.
Donald Trump had reasonable concerns about how Joe Biden’s relatives enriched themselves through his service. Yet his own family is making the “Biden crime family” look small-time

Again, the story of the 2024 election is not Trump’s madness and unfitness — which were well known and repeatedly proven — but the stupidity and brokenness of his voters.
On “The Necessary Conversation” podcast, Chad’s Trump supporter parents tell him the military should follow Trump’s illegal orders and kill everyone in LA if Trump commanded it — even with him and his sister in the city😳

What a stupid question
Over many interviews, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told Michael Scherer about how he plans to remake America’s public-health system. Can he lead the scientific establishment he’s spent much of his life crusading against?

Perfect Tom Stoppard story from DTel obituary:

His response to a letter from Harold Pinter canvassing support for a proposal to have the Comedy Theatre in London rechristened the Pinter Theatre, “Have you thought, instead, of changing your name to Harold Comedy?”

There’s something truly screwed up in America law enforcement culture: this sort of violence when arresting someone who poses zero threat is routine. You just don’t have endless footage of cops behaving this way in other advanced countries. Hell, not even in developing countries.
America Abroad: Just as lawless.

The private sector and profit motive can be useful supporting instruments in peace negotiations.

But the idea they can be the *primary* basis was both theorized but repeatedly tried in the 1990s and 2000s. Those attempts failed repeatedly because you cannot just drop the political causes of war.1/

When I was 15, I played Christopher in my school’s production of On the Razzle. The lines Tom
Stoppard wrote for the part had the audiences roaring with laughter each night and I gained a reputation for being funny … even though I’m not.

RIP Tom Stoppard.

How is this a shock to anyone who's been paying even the most minimal attention to what Trump has been saying and his admin have been doing all year? I posted this in February, for example. Officials who simply chose not to believe it because it's all too difficult might want to rethink their career

I just don’t buy the idea Trump has gotten worse. He’s always been like this. There are no crescendos and diminuendos in his character. He’s constantly insane.

What’s changed is an array of power centers, particularly the Supreme Court, have let him get away with more and more.
Trump’s latest truth social message is more evidence that he has become more unstable than ever before

Actually all for encouraging people to dress better in public spaces. As a New Orleanian I am endlessly horrified by how tourists dress while stomping about the French Quarter, ruining the look of the cultural heart of our city. It’s also why Europeans hate great big hordes of American visitors.
Sean Duffy: "Dressing with respect -- whether it's a pair of jeans and a decent shirt, I would encourage people to maybe dress a little better which encourages us to maybe behave a little better. Let's try not to wear slippers and pajamas as we come to the airport."

McClain is right about enlisted soldiers. Officers is a different matter.
BLITZER: I want to be precise. Should members of the US military obey clearly illegal orders?

McCLAIN: You're asking an enlisted person for their opinion on what they think is legal. That's a pretty slippery slope. Follow your commander in chief. That's the oath that you took

(Not a no!)
